Completely new to the whole model railway thing, so we are going to build a shelf layout and see how we go!

Never done anything “handy” before (electronics aside) so had no tools at all, understanding that I would need wood and something to hold it together, off to B&Q we went.

Snook it in under the wife's nose to get out of the rain (yes its MDF)

We aren’t too far from Hatton’s so all into the car, I felt quite sorry for the guy who got us as customers, He didn’t say it but you could tell he was thinking “just by a starter set already!"

Just missing a controller thingy, so spent a few hours researching on MRF (great next day service from Bromsgrove Models).

I had considered going ‘N’ gauge when this all started! Glad we went ‘OO’

Decoder installed

First loco running!

Having a blast thus far, track planning next!

That's pretty rapid progress thumbsup.gif

When you buy a decoder for your next loco, consider getting a TCS DP2X-UK which are also stocked by Bromgrove. These plug directly into the 8 pin decoder socket so you don't have all that extra wire crammed into a small space. You can swap the one in your Jinty into your next loco. Here's a photo of one in my Bachmann 08 shunter
