Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that the annual Hornby Magazine Live!/Hartlepool MRG takes place this weekend, 7th and 8th July.

Several of my Zimo powered loco conversions can be seen (smoking) and heard running on HM's layout 'Bolsover and Seven Lane Pit'. Come and judge for yourself.

Also, I will be on the HM stand all weekend, running sound clinics. Come along for a chat, and bring your tricky questions with you.

Kind regards,

Paul

I'm looking forward to the show. Missed last year's event, but thoroughly enjoyed the 2010 show at Wynyard. Hope a decent DCC supplier is there, I need decoders! The list of engines still to be chipped is extensive

Digitrains and DC Kits will be there, but the venue has changed from previous years.

Brilliant show at the new venue - anyone else visit the show - don't you think it's becoming one of the majors on the circuit!

Great show, and I agree the new venue is a great improvement. I really would have liked to chat about your Zimo decoders, but alas you were busy. Enjoyed talking to Phil Parker though.

Spent far too much at Digitrains though (as usual). I'm going to be fitting decoders for months.

Kevin,

I'm sorry you weren't able to get some time from me, as you say I was constantly busy. On Saturday I managed to get my lunch at 16.30! Still, Phil is very knowledgeable in his subject and entertaining too. You can chat here or PM me with specific questions. Or make and appointment to see me next year! Ha ha.

Did anyone else on here attend?

Did you check out the sound and smoke locos on Hornby Magazine layout, Bolsover and Seven Lane Pit?

What did you make of the Austerity 0-6-0 ST that I converted for the show?

For those who did not, I'll be posting a video as soon as I get change to upload it.

Kind regards,

Paul

Look forward to the video being posted

Paul

Yes, loved the steam and sound on Bolsover, it added real atmosphere. Nicely weathered engines passing through well modelled scenery. Well done!
Shame about the track spacing though, it spoilt what was otherwise a very attractive piece of modelling. However, I must say I was too busy noticing the smoke and hearing those real steam sounds for it to overly bother me which in itself speaks volumes.

I suppose the biggest suprise of the day was the sheer volume of DCC layouts and the number of them that featured sound. Did hornby do that deliberately or has the balance of the Hobby suddenly shifted. Most exhibitions seem only to have 2 or 3 DCC layouts, Hartlepool seemsed nearer 50%, though I didnt count.

I've missed quite a few Hornby Mags lately, is there a particular issue that deals with fitting sound & smoke? I've suddenly got an urge to convert an A4.

Looking forward to the videos. Do you have a blog someplace?

Kevin

Kevin,

You certainly have missed a few, I've been writing about sound and smoke in HM for a couple of years, including the A4 on the layout. (issues 51,52 and 53).

Anyway, here's the video to refresh your memory.
