Taunton Cider in Somerset organised the repainting of one Cargowaggon into their Taunton Cider livery to promote the brand. These wagons ran from Somerset through to end customers in Europe. The vehicles were not exclusively used by their sponsoring livery firm, so this wagon would have travelled throughout the UK on various traffics.

The Rivarossi model will include both continental and spare Hornby couplings to suit all OO or HO modellers. Only 500 models commissioned.

Hi,

Rivarossi are also offering two FS three phase electric locos. Brings back memories of Continental Railway Circle meetings in the late 1960s/early 1970s.

The catenary will be a challenge.

some really great models in there.

But i do sigh when i see the prices. Steam loco's knocking over the £400 line. 2 car DMU's over £300.....

There are some models i would dearly love in that range.

Peter

Prices do seem out of line with Hornby's OO offerings (assuming Arnold are owned by Hornby as well). Presumably something to do with what the market will bear and / or where they are made?

Remember that these are Hornby's full RRPs, undiscounted by the retail trade! rolleyes.gif

I am fascinated by Arnold's N scale resin buildings, and the TT gauge locos.... more to come?

In France, most retailers sell at or above RRP. Amazingly the market can bear these prices. Small market perhaps...

The few French guys I know who are into model railways remember the good old days of Jouef - slightly crappy models in the basic range, and a prestige range of expensive locos that everyone wanted but few could afford.

Then for many years they didn't have their beloved Jouef after it went bust.

Now they are here again and as expensive - if not a little more - than the old prestige range. These guys will buy one loco a year or even one every couple of years and that's it.

So it's not a large market and Hornby are obviously selling much fewer French models than what they do British models in the UK. I think that they are pushing the price up accordingly, making a more exclusive product with a few more features, but selling to a clientèle who is willing to spend a little more.

having looked around at prices here my original idea of modelling 'continental' soon faded. The 'local' model shop does not sell trains, only cars, and the HO cars seem to be around 12-14Euros. Evidently railway modelling in France is a rich man's game.

I have come across very few model shops in France that sell model railways but plenty that sell model cars. We tend to be more successful in coming across model railway shops in Switzerland. But thinking about it, I come across few model railway shops in UK towns and cities in the sight seeing districts, with the exception perhaps of the south coast.

Yes, there are very few Model rail outlets in Central London, except Harrods, but there used to be one in Marylebone, whose name I foget. This shop closed over 15 years ago., but there are some mail order outlets in London, not open to the public. However, if you go to Cologne or Munich in Germany, there seem to be hundreds in these cities. How well they are doing is another matter, because of the large overheads, and the Banks are now very cautious to lend funds to support anyone,( except themselves), these days. I dont know whether Marklin are continuimg to support the German Model displays in UK. The one I saw last year at Guagemaster Open Day in Sussex was quite good, but the shop there was so crowded (men/women and children) , it was almost impossible to see anything up close.
