Maybe somebody could help with this enquiry I have had?

QUOTE
I have a body for a bachmann/mainline GWR Mogul.  Would you have a suggestion on where to go to find a working chassis?  Also, Modelspares is out of GWR coach bogies, would you have any leads?

Lets assume its Bachmann/Mainline GWR coach bogies that are required.

I am not too sure if the current Bachmann chassis that is available as an accessory for about 30 will fit the Mainline Mogul body as the design may be different.

Happy collecting
Gary

rolleyes.gif I have tried several forums etc, as a means of obtaining information on Bachmann's c170 Turbostar 3 coach DMU, unfortunately no such information has been attained.
It could be this Turbostar c170 is not a popular choice amongst avid modellers, or it could be it is a poor runner and not worth the selling price of 93.00, though it has been advertised as low as 75.00.
I would appreciate views from forum members, as it would certainly help me to decide one way or the other, whether to buy the Bachmann Turbostar.

I bid on a box full of brand new mainline spares which had everything from brushes and buffers to complete motors included in it, it was a dealers box and i stopped bidding at around 60 i wish i'd had the funds available to go further. I can't remember what it fetched in the end but i haven't seen another set like it since.

170 Turbostars
Central can motor driving all wheels via fly wheel and shaft. The 3 car has the centre car driven, the other 2 being dummies.

I have 3 and find then all fine. If you have a voyager or 158 you will find they are virtually identical.
Don't ask me about prototypical details, they look the part to me and thats all that matters.

I didn't know the 3 car sets had the centre car driven though i suppose it make sense.
On the subject of bachmann spares i had to contact them about a class 37 i've just bought that had no detail kit and when handling it somehow one of the buffers fell completely off and the other at the same end the shank snapped. I got a very quick reply stating that the buffers are the same as in the packs you can buy in any model shop and the detail kits are 2.50 but don't come with snowploughs. Not that i'm too bothered about the ploughs as the other bachmann 37 i have seemed to dig in on points when fitted with them. and they look a bit cheesy as well, too plasticky to me.

I've no experience of the Mogul but I had no problem fitting a new Bachmann chassis to a Mainline Manor body and I would be very surprised if the Mogul was any different. You quite often see Mainline locos on eBay described as having new Bachmann chassis.

Dear all,

Interesting subject of fitting new chassis to older models etc.Being an engineer by trade,a whole multitude of diciplines from electrial/electronic/hydraulic etc and being a builder of custom cars/bikes and trikes. If things are done in a controlled, planned fashion, you can pretty much fit something to anything else with a bit of FORETHOUGHT,thats where most projects fall flat on their faces.I know Bachman are/were still using some of the Mainline molds, dont know if they still are.Have fun and all the best,Stew.

What traction tyres would be suitable for a Mainline class 45 diesel? Mine have all perished.

Hi

Does anyone know where I can get some Mainline screws, they are for fitting the loco body to the chassis, I managed to lose one after servicing. I've tried East Kent Models. Apparently Bachmann don't do them as spares.

You could try a model shop that specialises in radio control - I've found that they usually stock a good range of hardware.
