By following this thread, which was started on October 19th 2009, you will find the latest news of Twickenham & District MRC's new OO gauge BR(S) third rail layout - TWICKENHAM JUNCTION.

TWICKENHAM JUNCTION was actually the name of the original 19th century station at Twickenham - we have just re-used the name ( because we like it!) for our new layout which is based on Twickenham station as it was in the middle of the 20th century.

The layout does have a page on the Club's website www.tdmrc.org.uk , but this thread will keep you more up to date as the group will be posting updates as the layout develops.

It's now Dec 12th 2009 and the group has been greatly boosted by the release of Bachmann's 4-CEP unit. Whilst it is not 100% correct for the layout it does look and run superbly and it is available at a rediculously low price.......... until something better comes along this will be the basic stock for the long distance trains on Twickenham Junction...... the group already owns four 4 car sets which can be run as two 8 car trains...... third rail SR articles are all over this month's modelling mags.......... our group can only benefit from all this new interest in SR EMUs.

It's January 22nd 2010 and the Club committee have given the project the Green light (from a double yellow!) - which means more Club funds being made available.

Information about the real (old) Twickenham station station still drops into our email inbox on regular intervals - we have just heard from an ex-resident of Twickenham who now lives in Canada - he appears to have 4 or 5 photos we didn't know about before and a recently joined new member has brought with him new (old) photos of the area around the station forecourt - all good stuff!

All the information we are gathering is going into a computer file so that we can show interested visitors all the photos, plans etc on a laptop.

Big news on the rolling stock front is the construction of a Urie U1 2-6-0 from a DJH kit and once that is completed a kitbuilt EMU is next on the production line!

It's June 6th and a lot of progress has been made behind the scenes - more pointwork has been made, signals have been started and a final (improved) trackplan has been agreed. The group are experimenting with different DCC systems.

As the layout is such a big project there are a lot of boards to be made and most of that work is done on monthly "work Saturdays" - the last such work session was yesterday and the first set of two pairs of legs were fitted to the "king" board.

Two baseboard teams were working - in the foreground Marin and Paul are building boards for the scenic front, whilst at the back Nick, Terry and Bob are fitting legs to the "king" fiddle yard board.

The workers proudly show off their first board up and ready for tracklaying - somehow the Club Chairman (far left) seems to have got himself into the picture as well!
