By following this thread you will be able to catch up with the latest news of Twickenham & District MRC's G scale layout.

When this thread was started on October 23rd 2009, the layout was in process of being rebuilt into a continuous run format using new baseboards but salvaging as much of the old end-to-end layout (known as Rica Luno) as possible

It's a month now since our last posting and much has changed............

The new layout is based on the classic American "Time Saver" concept for maximum operation in the minimum space..... it comprises four 4ft long scenic boards ... fiddle yard(s) optional for maximum flexibility.......... the boards are designed to fit in a normal car so no van hire required ... so hopefully more exhibition invites!

All four scenic boards are now built and sit on new trestles..... we have the old PECO track and pointwork cut out from our old Rica Luno layout and now ready to re-lay on boards 1 & 2. The old trackwork was litterally cut out in sections from our old layout and so is still glued and screwed (and ballasted) to plywood bases.... so we have, in effect, made our own ready ballasted sectional track sections... just like Roco and Fleischmann!!

The old track has successfully been relaid on boards 3 & 4 but aligning the trackwork on boards 1 and 2 is slightly more complex and some re-alignment will be needed once a "final" track layout has been agreed

The goup have been a bit quiet during the early Summer as members have been distracted by Garden railways which have needed attention, but August has seen a flurry of activity on the Club layout.

Friday August 20th sees a trackplanning session to see how various bits of track might fit and how buidings might look in situ.
