I was impressed with the reviews in HM and MR magazines so have takien the plunge and ordered one from NRW as I am developing a fascination for pre-grouping locos (anyone know of any other RTR locos in production) - was impressed with the C3 at the Bluebell SE&CR event yesterday...
Also, could anyone advise what coaches would run with this Compound - the new Bachmann 57' coaches? Thanks |

If you're looking for little pre-grouping locos, this is a cracker! Regarding coaches for the compound, I'll play devil's advocate a little here and say that the model represents the preserved loco and therefore the best stock to put behind it would be a set of blue/grey BR Mk I's, as hauled in the late 70s/early 80s. There's a fair number of what started out as pre-grouping loco designs available RTR now. Many would need grouping and BR era alterations removed to make them into models of the grouping era appearance. The trouble starts if you want matching rolling stock, in a pre-group livery. Basically there isn't any... Midland coaches to match the MR compound will need kit building. If you run the loco in 'as preserved' condition which is what the NRM model represents, then BR steam era stock is appropriate.
The Southern lines have a neat little collection now: LBSCR Terrier; LSWR Beattie WT, M7, T9, N15; SECR N, and the C class announced. All but the Terrier are newly introduced, so are to current standard and very nice too. From what became the LMS, because Midland types were perpetuated almost unchanged by the LMS, there are a fair number of their designs available, readily backdated to MR form: 3FT, 2P, 4P, and the 3F and 4F announced. The G2A should backdate to an LNWR condition, and the ROD ran on the LNWR too. Also the L&Y and Caledonian pugs. Some sort of goods engine for the S&DJR. From the GNR J52, N2 and A1 (K3 is only in grouped form) ; GCR 8K (ROD), NER J72, NBR J83 and potentially a Y9 modified from the Caley pug (all the J's and pug are very dated models). GWR Dean goods, City, 28xx, 30xx, 43xx, and the announced Churchward County; possibly some of the 14xx, 45xx 51xx and 57xx can be backdated effectively. |

Adrian - cheers, I actually have that T9 (the NRM version) and about 6 SR coaches, am considering buying the 1938 set also and coach pack.
Thanks 34C - completely forgot about the Bmann C class despite it staring me in the face on the front cover of their 2011 catalogue - will place that on order. Thanks for the rolling stock info - think I will go with those 57' LMS as they look good and can be excused under Preservation rules...not keen on BR blue/Grey behind that. I also have quite a few of those other locos you mention so can see some good excuses for stock running and exchanges there. I have several of the Ratio Clerstorys to build also so it can pull them under the 'cascaded to local lines' tag. It would be great to see some of those Metropolitan coaches produced as run by Bluebell at the weekend - they were a work of art and you could see yr face in the varnish. Cheers |

You may be interested to know there is a good colour picture of part of a Metropolitan coach side still in pre-grouping ownership; it was taken just before the November 1937 transfer to the LNER. It was indeed a thing of beauty, with ivory lining picking out some of the elegant varnished panelling at waist and cantrail. Chance of a RTR model; miniscule...

Can't wait to save up my money for this.I'm now in my third week without the cigarettes which was costing anything from £10-£13 p/w.That plus some potential Christmas cash would put me in good stead. So long as the basic ones are still about come early February,I shall be getting one!
I was originally inclined towards the "updated" Hornby, but however much detailing you add to that,it's not quite the same. The other factor is that I'd rather have the loco in it's preserved, post 1959 livery & the NRM is in that guise............. |

Hi Charles.
The NRM will in fact send to addresses outside the EU. I live in Canada and was able to order from nrm.shop@nrm.org.uk. A nice young lady named Nicole sent me an application form by e-mail. Just fill it in and mail it back to them. Regards, Malcolm |

Dear All, The only problem is they won't deliver to Australia :{ Regards Charles Sydney Australia Yes, they will Charles, but you will pay around GBP45 postage for the privilege. As Malcolm says, email or phone them and they are very happy to help out (I snared a first run of the Deltic a few years back, when they were still using Royal Mail to post, at a reasonable rate) -------------------- Stockrington, my 4mm NE themed layout, being built one week at a time!

They only charged me GPR17 for postage and that was Royal Mail. More than offset by the VAT reduction.

I have used Interlink direct and they are very good and very competitive - you will also get a 5£ discount with yr first booking.
http://www.interlinkdirect.co.uk/online_sa...eEnquiry.action I just did a budget pricing exercise from Farnham UK to NSW and it came out at ~£24.39 for typical 00 gauge loco carton from Rails etc Its a collection service though so you need to advise the seller to have the package ready - you create the label and email it to them to stick on the parcel and the van collects it then its tracked and insured via the bar code = works very well |
