So... Lets see how long it takes to get to me in America.
Thsi will be my fist issue of my subscription.
I'm quite excited to receive it

Hopefully quicker than it takes to get to me in Ozz. I'm usually last. sad.gif

Does this latest issue of the Hornby magazine pre-view the international N Gauge show due later in the month of the cover (September)?

Looking at the cover photo the thought that struck me is that it is too bright and therefore stands out to much.

I take it you mean the OHLE rather than the cover itself !

Another good issue, does indeed have an air of the old 'Constructor' about it, but none the worse for that! Shame modern mags don't have room / funds / etc, for the excellent loco and stock line drawings we used to get.

Still we should be ever grateful that HM has at least given the other mags something to think about!

To be honest I just think there is the demand for these drawings/plans in these days of quality detailed RTR models, as fewer & fewer modelers scratch or kitbuild - I could be wrong though.

Well done Brian you correctly spotted I was referring to the catenary and therefore qualify for this weeks star prize.

BTW I always miss a bit to give you something to moan about! lmfao.gif lmfao.gif

For cover that's a good thing, it will then stand out from all the other mags wink.gif

Although not actually the point I was making I would agree that a bright bold cover does stand out.

Another good issue.

I must admit I don't want to see continental models and layouts. After all we already have Continental Railway Modeller. I do really hope this is NOT going to be a regular feature as it will, in my view, use up space which could be used on more relevant British layouts. I always skip the Continental supplements of Model Rail as they rarely contain anything which inspires me abd of course all the stock/equipment is European so even if I were interested in it I wont be finding it for purchase over here in the U.K.

Having said that I haven't much interest in the Scottish elements in issue 15 but still enjoyed reading it/them.

The Woodhead layout was very novel and interesting to see steam and electric together.

Looking forward to the 'whether to weather' article in next issue.

More D&E please !!!!!!!!

I only received my copy of Issue 14 yesterday. I seems the original got lost in the post but HM were quick to send me a replacement once I flagged it up to them. A thoroughly good read though and I will hopefully catch up with you guys and receive Issue 15 next week. Ins'h Allah.

Modellers generally model either UK or overseas. Seldom both! A attempt at a modern image modelling magazine recently foundered. In my opinion this was because it contained FAR too much coverage of foriegn railways. No more please. Hopefully this was just a 'blip' and Hornby magazine can resume its mission of being a breath of fresh air for UK modellers.

***Not a personal criticism & I haven't seen this issue but.... I simply don't understand (the several) comments like this at all.

I am a very, very focussed hands on modeller of UK prototype... but to me "Modelling is Modelling" - and if providing inspiration and learning is the purpose of the magazine, surely skill is still skill whether its making realistic scenery on a European layout or an English one, and technology, techniques and tips are the same benefit to modellers of all persuasions no matter where they are sourced...

Yes, I do very much enjoy seeing quality layouts of UK prototype and my personal preference would be a magazine which leaned towards UK of course but when it came down to it, in reality simply sought out the best in modelling - and presented it in a clear "you can do it too" manner.

If that meant a model railway magazine issue full of articles on perfect painting and weathering by military modellers, how to realistically create forced perspective in a layout by a museum based diorma modeller and articles on realistic backscene painting by a chinese landscape artist, then I'd be quite happy.

Why does the source of the prototype have to be British for it to have value as a quality modelling article?

Richard

I am in full agreeance with you Richard.

I model UK in 00 but also operate on a large North American HO layout & involvment in USA N Scale as well.
I appreciate any modeling even if it was Outer Mongolian railways of 0 scale.
Any modeling mag I come across gets read;Aust, USA or UK ( bit hard to read some European due to language but I can see the pictures)
