Ah my old friend the soldering iron we meet again. It was always an uneasy alliance at the best of times. And just as I attempt to use it in anger all goes cold... Still it has been 25-odd years since i bought it so I haven't done too badly for the capital outlay! Immediately out to Altronics to pick up a new one.

My wiring will be bussed probably by layout section. I am running some black and red 50/0.25 hookup wire around the inner supports underneath each rectangular layout module. These are being connected to the excellent DCC Concepts bus/dropper connectors every so often. This means that the bus is within 30-40cms of any area on the layout. My droppers are 14/0.2 hookup wire in a variety of colours depending on usage (ie. black/red for power, green/white for points, etc.). Following Richard's advice I will be placing droppers in at least one per section between points, as well as one per track length in any covered areas (ie. tunnels).

So far I have put in the bus and just two droppers to test some track and theory and all looking good.

And then I have a second bus cable running to the point of my programming track siding. It will probably have just the one dropper unless I have an unlikely need for additional programming sections. Given the ability of the ECoS 50200 to program on the main track I shouldn't have need to use the programming stub too often I hope.
