PRESS RELEASE

Ivatt 2MT Mickey Mouse joins the Bachmann Branchline roster

Bachmann Europe PLC has announced that the Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 Class locomotive is to join the OO scale 2006 Bachmann Branchline range.

128 Ivatt 2MT Class 2-6-0 locomotives were built between December 1946 and September 1952. Entering service with the London, Midland & Scottish Railway, construction continued under British Railways after Nationalisation in 1948. Light axle loadings allowed them to be used on branch line passenger and freight duties and their almost enclosed cabs made them ideal for working tender first when no turning facilities existed. The Class could be found at work on all but the Southern Region of British Railways. The introduction of diesel multiple units and branch line closures resulted in the class being withdrawn between 1961 and 1967, a year before the end of steam on British Railways. Seven locomotives have survived to work on heritage railways.

Initially 3 versions will be available as follows; 46521 (now preserved on the Great Central Railway) in British Railways lined green with late crest, 46440 in BR black with early emblem and 4604 in LMS black. Each Blue Riband locomotive will be DCC ready, have locomotive drive, tender cab and detailed pipework. Recommended Retail Price is ÂŁ71.95

PRESS RELEASE

Class 150 Sprinter to enter service with Bachmann Branchline and Graham Farish

Bachmann Europe PLC are to produce a OO scale Class 150 Sprinter diesel multiple unit in the Branchline range plus an N gauge version in the Graham Farish series.

147 units were built by British Rail Engineering Ltd at York for the Provincial Sector of British Rail between 1984 and 1987. Provincial went on to become Regional Railways before privatisation and the units subsequently passed to new operators.

Split into three sub-classes, Bachmann and Graham Farish are concentrating on the Class 150/1 and Class 150/2 versions. These two car units are currently in service with a number of Passenger Train Operating Companies in England and Wales.

The 150/1 units will appear initially in the colours of Centro Passenger Transport Executive (West Midlands) and First North Western. The Class 150/2 will carry Regional Railways Sprinter and Arriva Trains Wales liveries in both scales.

The new units will feature all wheel pick-up, flywheel drive and bi-directional lighting systems. The OO version will retail at ÂŁ80.95 and the N gauge at ÂŁ84.50.

PRESS RELEASE

British Railways Standard Class 4MT Mogul announced by Bachmann Branchline

A British Railways 4MT 2-6-0 76000 Class locomotive is to join the expanding OO gauge Bachmann Branchline range during 2006.

Designed by R.A. Riddles, 115 steam locomotives were built by British Railways between December 1952 and October 1957. Designed for mixed traffic use they were used on a wide variety of freight and passenger workings. They were a development of the much applauded Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 locomotives released by Bachmann last November.

The Standard 4MT 2-6-0 could be found at work across Britain with locomotives allocated to all regions from new with the exception of the Western Region, although some were later transferred there. In Scotland the Class were concentrated around Ayrshire, Glasgow and Lanarkshire. Some did find there way to Thornton in Fife and to Kittybrewster depot in Aberdeen, later moving to the other Aberdeen depot at Ferryhill. On the Southern Region they worked mainly from Brighton and Redhill on the South Central Division and on the South Western Division around Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Southampton. Due to the restricted turntable at Brockenhurst, the 4MTs regularly worked the London Waterloo Lymington boat trains which connected with the Isle of Wight ferry. North Eastern Region locomotives were allocated to Darlington, Gateshead, Hull, Sunderland and York. A number of the Class were allocated to Kirkby Stephen on the Stainmore route from Darlington to Tebay and Penrith, where weight restrictions applied on some of the structures across the Pennines. Some were allocated to Stratford before the onslaught of dieselisation on the Great Eastern lines in the early 1960s saw them moved elsewhere. The London Midland Region examples were concentrated in the North West around Liverpool, Manchester and Wigan.

The locomotives were withdrawn between May 1964 and December 1967, just eight months before the end of steam traction on the national rail network. 4 members of the class have been preserved with one example certified to work on special trains over the national network.

To begin with 2 versions of the locomotive will be available, initially with the Type 1B tender. These are 76053 with the British Railways early emblem and 76069 with the late crest.

The model will feature all wheel drive and will be DCC ready. The model has a Recommended Retail Price of ÂŁ79.95.

PRESS RELEASE

Graham Farish to produce a Jubilee Class locomotive

Bachmann Europe PLC has announced that the Jubilee Class 4-6-0 steam locomotive is to be introduced as part of its Graham Farish N gauge range.

Designed by Sir William Stanier for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway, 191 locomotives were built between April 1934 and December 1936. Many saw service on the former Midland Railway main line between London St. Pancras, the East Midlands, Sheffield, Leeds and Carlisle. They also worked cross-country trains from Bristol towards Birmingham and the North East. On the West Coast main line they saw active service on trains between London Euston and Birmingham New Street. Although unnamed at first, the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935 resulted in No. 5552 being repainted into glossy black livery with chromium plated handrails, boiler fittings and cabside numbers being applied. The class was then named after countries of the British Empire, former Admirals and warships. Withdrawals began in January 1961 with the last of the class being withdrawn in November 1967, nine months before the end of steam on British Rail. The final examples worked in the North West with four members of the class entering preservation.

Initially three versions will be available as follows; 45593 Kolhapur in British Railways lined with late crest and 4000 gallon Stanier tender, 45568 Western Australia in BR lined green with Fowler tender and 5558 Kashmir in LMS red with 4000 gallon Stanier tender. The Recommended Retail Price is ÂŁ91.95.

PRESS RELEASE

Graham Farish to introduce BR Standard 82000 Class 2-6-2T

The 82000 Class 3 British Railways Standard tank is to join the expanding Graham Farish range of N gauge models.

Designed by Robert Riddles they were built at Swindon Works and were based on the 77000 Class 2-6-0 tender locomotives from the same designer.

45 locomotives were built between April 1952 and August 1955. They were fitted with a standard Great Western Swindon No.2 boiler as used on the GWR 51xx, 56xx and 81xx Class tank locomotives. The first examples were allocated to South Wales working from Barry and Treherbert depots on Cardiff Valley services. The Western Region allocated examples were subsequently painted in lined passenger green livery, the others carrying BR lined black. A number were sent to Wrexham to allow the withdrawal of former LNER classes used on the former Wrexham, Mold & Connahs Quay routes. The Southern Region saw examples allocated to Eastleigh and Exmouth Junction for working local services, the Exmouth Junction locomotives replacing former London & South Western Railway M7 0-4-4 tanks on the Exeter Exmouth services. Four of the class were allocated to Kirkby Stephen and Darlington for working services over the testing Stainmore line between Darlington and Penrith / Tebay. They also saw service on the Somerset & Dorset route with locomotives being allocated to both Bath Green Park and Templecombe, whilst Bristol Bath Road examples hauled local services to Bath and on the Cheddar Valley line. When steam began to be run down they found their way to Nine Elms (London) working empty stock trains between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo and local passenger services run for General Post Office staff between Clapham Junction and Kensington Olympia. Others found themselves in mid-Wales working passenger and freight trains on the Cambrian section.

Withdrawals commenced in February 1964 with the last surviving until the end of Southern Region steam in July 1967.

Two versions will feature in the 2006 catalogue; 82005 in British Railways lined green with the late crest and 82016 in BR lined black with early emblem. Each model will retail at ÂŁ64.95.

PRESS RELEASE

Class 04 Diesel Shunter to join Graham Farish locomotive roster

Bachmann Europe PLC announced today (25th January 2006) that a Class 04 diesel shunter is to be introduced as part of its Graham Farish N gauge range.

After the war, the development of diesel shunting locomotives continued in an effort to improve efficiency and remove steam traction from large yards in the middle of towns and cities. At that time the mixture of smoke and fog created poor visibility and was harmful to health. The need to clean up the environment had never been greater.

Whilst the larger shunters such as the Class 08 were able to deal with most requirements, there existed in the 1950s a much larger network than today. Some of the docks, factories and other facilities served had lines with tight curvature and it was necessary to introduce smaller locomotives which could work them. One such locomotive was the Class 04.

A total of 140 locomotives to a Drewry design were built by the Vulcan Foundry and Robert, Stephenson & Hawthorn between 1952 and 1962. Widespread closure of lines and the move away from wagonload working to block trains for freight resulted in much of the work being lost. The first locomotive was withdrawn in 1968, the last in 1972. Many went on to be sold to industrial users at home and in Italy. Eighteen examples have been preserved for use on heritage railways.

Two versions feature in the 2006 catalogue; D2280 in British Railways green and D2294 in British Rail blue. The recommended retail price is ÂŁ42.95.
