I already have a Dapol Kimberley Hall loco, which is the best ever.
How do the Dapol B1's compare to the Halls ?

Thanks,

Foster

As no one has answered my query, I contacted Dapol directly.
The answer is that the B1 steam locos are as good as the Hall class.
The upgrade on the Halls is mostly cosmetic, so there goes my budget ( again)

They would say that - the B1 suffers from crosshead screws on its coupling rods and there are questions over its accuracy - most people seem to think the Farish B1 is more accurate.

Well, I now have my Dapol B1 loco, and it runs as well as the Hall class loco.
Once again, I am delighted with Dapol's running, and finish.

So, you would have appeared to have answered your own question.

Glad you like your B1. My Dapol B1 is new and hardly runs at all. The little cam shaft spins around, but the loco only jerks every now and then. The cam is in its seat, and after taking it apart the worm seems to be in place and wheels turn, so goodness knows what it's stopping it...

Unlikely I will buy another Dapol with a tender drive, I don't have the money to waste. It's not as if they're a cut price a option.

I would suggest you send it straight back to Dapol or the retailer you bought it from before you take it apart any more and invalidate the warranty. There's absolutely no need to accept a non-working new loco. That's what warranties are for.

Trevor,

I hear you. Unfortunately, while it was working I added a LokSound chip into a dummy wagon behind the tender (speaker simply too big to get it in the tender or loco alongside the decoder), and made a small incision between the top of the tender and the base to allow the wires through from the decoder to the speaker in the trailing wagon. Whilst it is the tiniest of modifications and barely noticeable with the wires removed I can already hear the response in my head. Cheers.

I would still give Dapol a call and explain the situation to them.

If you don't ask you'll never know and they just might be sympathetic.
