Part of the superb Wrenn Railways collection of John Martin is being auctioned on Saturday 24th September at the Vectis sale at the Benn Hall, Rugby. Valued at in excess of £40000, a large proportion of the 72 locomotives for sale are Wrenn Railways limited editions with many locomotives expected to fetch well over £500 each. Bids may be made by internet right up until 10:30 GMT on Saturday 24th September and so if any of the collection catch your eye and you are not able to attend you may bid up until this time. Examples of locomotives for sale are listed below.

W2410, Limited Edition (ins) 0-6-0 SR olive green R1 Class Tank Locomotive No.1047 complete with certificate No.49 of 350, plaque, length of track and plinth, condition Mint in Excellent to Excellent Plus box dated 1/89 but with slight tear to one corner. Estimate: £700 -£750



W2313 (ins) 4-6-2 BR green Princess Coronation Class Locomotive and Tender No.46234 "Duchess of Abercorn", condition Mint in Near Mint to Mint box dated 10/92. Estimate: £750 -£800



W2276/5P (ins) 4-6-2 Southern Malachite green Streamlined West Country Class Locomotive and Tender No.21C101 "Exeter" complete with Golden Arrow decorations to front and sides of loco, condition Mint in Near Mint box dated 9/88. Estimate: £750 -£800

Vectis have now listed the prices realised for this collection and many of the items under the hammer did much better than expected:-



Limited Edition (ins) 2 Car brown and pale cream Brighton Belle EMU with white tables, comprising W3006/7A power Car No.90 and W3006/7A non-powered Car No.91, both cars show 150 years and 1841-1991 transfer to front and route indicator box showing No.4, condition Mint in Near Mint individual boxes. (2)

Estimate: £300 -£350
Price Realised: £1,100 (£550 for each coach)



W2313 (ins) 4-6-2 BR green Princess Coronation Class Locomotive and Tender No.46234 "Duchess of Abercorn", condition Mint in Near Mint to Mint box dated 10/92.

Estimate: £750 -£800
Price Realised: £1,400 (for 1 loco!)



W2312 (ins) 4-6-2 BR green Princess Coronation Class Locomotive and Tender No.46245 "City of London", mark to left side of tender, condition Near Mint to Mint in Near Mint box dated 2/92.

Estimate: £700 -£750
Price Realised: £1,200

Even the auctioneers where slightly surprised at prices achieved on the day and they say in their own summary of the days events QUOTE All prices seemed to rocket through the roof with some buyers exclaiming 'crazy prices!'
