Hi again Jaz,
When you first posted the low level platform view, showing the platform surface and edge stones, kept meaning to ask what you modelled these from; as look so realistic ?
Other pics look great too of course 😉.
Thanks, Cheers Norm

Platform / foam
Sky Building Window Cloud Plant

Hornby platforms are fine for a small length, but especially when you want to model a real place you have to look at other solutions
Having insulated the roof, then found ways to use the cuts offs, and making the stairs it occred to us that we might have the solution for the platform and the 25mm thick sheets was just about spot on for depth, bomus

being foam you can cut and sit the building, the water pumps lamps whatever

I did damage some but reoairs are easy if you can be bothered, sanded foam and glue are one option.

really need to weather the rails :)
perfect not nit even close, but once you add loads of different factors people are to bush looking at the overall to concentrate on the individual issues
plus I think I was nagged by Richard and used n gauge here as he hates 00 gauge ballast on 00 gauge layouts.

FYI always wanting to try something new when we did Kalborough we tried a different technique, we had left over plasterboard also 25mm the paper finish was paintable but if it soaked up too match watery paint could be an issue, and aligning the peco edging was more problematic but not beyond our patience to fit, then ballast to bed

Track Building Wood Tree Mode of transport

Wood Rectangle Composite material Flooring Technology

tried this plastic sheet, the cost and embedding was more problematic and not very weight bearing gave up on this idea quite quickly
Wood Rectangle Musical instrument Flooring Hardwood

the plasterboard obvious carried weight easier, and as we could paint we tried different styles, these were basically referenced from Peterborough station

a blade cut the slabs then painted carefully, the slopes involved cutting the plaster in the plasterboard which was messy but not too difficult

I could also mark the board for embedding the buildings

and the board was soft enough to press some detailing into place

all in all I think I prefer the foam, and all that peco edging added up in cost, but either did the job

Hi Jaz,
Thanks for all the pics / info. Think the 25mm cut / scribed rigid insulation is a good call.
On the “Loft” had used small timber as the base and thin ply as the top, for platforms about 4-6ft Long; but never been right, with banana ends in the sunshine / heat - as some early Loft Posts / Humour -

Given the rigid / PIR insulation is available in thicknesses from 6mm to 200mm at least, and more, will take a look or even see what’s in the garage ....
No doubt more questions WIP to follow - Thanks again Cheers Norm

If it has metal strip remove both side, as that is vulnerable to heat and can banana also once metal foil is gone it’s fine

I wanted to detail a butchers once upon a time before elf and safety got in on the act, you could regularly see meat hanging from the butchers,Xmas York hams and turkeys and even sides of neat
pink plastercine

shaped
then painted

white fat and flesh pink added

selling the back of a lorry was not unusual, and not always netted either

Hi Jaz,
Again some really great detailing / models - meat and poultry being displayed / stored for sale like that evokes lots of memories - elf and safety apart we all ate it and lived to tell the tale eh !
We still have a few village shops (butchers, fishmongers, bakers),that still to not “too” long ago had shopfronts / windows like that - inc fish / crabs / etc - only hours out of the sea !
Very impressive detailing as always, Thanks for posting, Cheers Norm
Ps. Wouldn’t fancy being that delivery driver / lifter 🤣 !

FYI my technique when taken a photograph is not to look at the best bit, but look at the worse bit and see if it is an easy fix in order to improve the whole,.
