60 years since formation of British Railways

40 years since last BR steam train

70 years since world speed record

20 years since Flying Scotsman in Australis

30 years since worlds first digital command control system

60 years of Peco

60 years of Graham Farish model railroads

Is there anything else to celebrate?

Interesting to see all the aniversaries,Gary.
Hopefully I will reach my 70th on July13th and carry on happily modeling!
Can't beleive I'm actually writing this.Blimey where have all the years gone.
Wish Mallard did its thing in the 13th of July but maybe they thought it an unlucky day.

Ah it must be lucky for me that my birthday falls on the 3 July then
(Perhaps why thats i'm interested in trains???)

Certainly a lot to celebrate next year - Whose going to buy the first round of drinks then? ... Probably me now i've just said that ...

A few more dates of express importance in UK railway history.

1848 First service trains run on The Great Northern Railway

1868 First Stirling singles built (2-2-2, not the eight footers)

1898 First UK Atlantic type Ivatt 'Klondyke'

1908 First UK Pacific type Churchward 'The Great Bear'

1918 First three cylinder locomotive with conjugated valve gear Gresley 2-8-0

1928 The Flying Scotsman service commences non-stop running - world distance record for steam.

Was zero 1 actually the first?
H&M also had their system. i think zero 1 was in production first but did the H&M system get demonstrated first?

I do hope the NRM does something nice the Mallards anniversary.

In my opinion something quite important happened in 1958.

Oh and 2008 is also the 85th anniversary of the formation of the big four.
