hiya group,

can anyone reccomend a reasonably priced 5amp transformer with variable voltage.

Its for running my 40 grain of wheat bulbs used for yard lighting, hornby scalelighting for various layout buildings and lighting for 3 carriages (carriages are non runners and not connected to dcc track)

thx

Hi Brendan

You probably wont need a full 5 amp for that , but you could buy a laptop power supply from china for around $20 on ebay with various switchable voltage output 7v -24v at 4-5amps

Most of those bulbs are only 20-30mA so you could run at least 160 lamps on 5 amp

You could use an old train controller to power some with the controlled output and give a more precise control over the brightness

Hi Brendan,

Or you can buy a used laptop power supply on car boot sale for a few pounds. This is how I got my <1A supply for my electronics project for 50p.
