A group build....

A few people have suggested another group build, so here's what I'm suggesting

We take a basic Dapol kit like this:

http://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/images/d...ached-house.jpg

and build it, no racing ahead just take the kit and we discuss a) how to build it, b)how to improve it, c) weathering and finishing, and possibly d) fitting into the landscape.

I picked the building above for two reasons, firstly it's a very simple kit, and secondly it's widely available.

So, who's going to join in?

Regards

I will come in as well. I have'nt built one of these Airfix/Dapol kits for many a long year.

Keith.
Right, I got my kit today and the mig-welder is at the ready.

I supported my local model shop for my kit, no P&P charges for me and a little bit of trade for them.

Keith.
I would doubt that many people who intended to get involved with this group build would have a milling machine amongst their tools. I for one feel put off by this high level approach. I very much doubt if I will now join in and will just put the kit away for future use.

O.K. Dave, I have got the kit back out of the drawer, I will stay with it. I will use a 3/4" socket set and let others get on with a milling machine.

I would like to set the record straight, I was not having a tantrum or any such thing. I just took it as a group build for the average modeller with a average tool kit. I see no point in anyone showing what can be done if you have superior tools than everyone else in the build group would have, nobody would learn anything. If it was shown how to thin down the windows by useing files or by sanding [or any other way with average persons tools] it would have been a great lesson.
I would have thought that later there could be a group build for those with higher skills and a formidable array of tools to show their prowess.

Keith.
Regarding the windows, would some plasticard around the rear edge of the window openings have the same effect in making the windows recessed.?

Regards, Keith.
Would it be easier to paint the windows before they are finaly attatched ?

Keith.
I do like the idea of the tiled roofs over door and garage front.

No chance, you have to be a war baby [1939-45] to be a classic.

Is there any easy way to make the guttering?. I know Ratio do a plastic fret of guttering etc, but it seems expensive for a very small amount.

Keith.
Oh dear !, Is any hobby worth getting so stressed and hot under the collar for.?

Keith.
If you cannot live in peace over a hobby, what can you live in peace over.? For myself, I have far greater problems to get stressed over, so I do try not to argue over trivial things, such as a hobby.

Keith.
I only think a hobby is trivial when it is compared to serious matters like severe health problems with young people for instance.

Keith.
Perhaps "trivial" was not the correct word to use, but it saddens me that a "mature" [in age] man can get so aggresive over a hobby.
