5 Ratio GWR 4 wheelers nearly done. i have to do the interiors and send it off to have the transfers done (i dont do transfers!)

4 LMS arc roof bogie coaches they are just in their black undercoat which dosent show up very clearly.

And an LNER quad art

I hope the person who called me a "Trainset player" on the other thread is taking notes!

QUOTE (BRITHO)Hi Peter,

It was great to meet you at Chatham, I have to say that it was a pleasure to see your work in the flesh, it looks even better than the photographs - I am now truly inspired.

Regards

John

Hello BritHO. It was good to put a face to a name. (and to find out what your screen name ment!! (for some reason i never thought of it as "Brit HO".

At the show i delivered the B set and the customer for the BG was very impressed (it is the first model i have done for him, he used to use another maker but has had some bad experiences recently and i offered to make it for him.) and i got another 3 coaches to make. they are D&S kits for Great Nothern 6 wheelers. he wants them done in the same teak i did the quad art in. last night i made a start and i was amazed at the kits. they just fell together. i only had one minor problem with a window bolection that didnt fit but apart from that they were perfect. I really do witsh he would sell those kits so they can be put back into production. i would love a set of the big GNR 12 wheelers withought having to etch them myself!

QUOTE (Dennis David)It means a lot when you create it yourself. If only I worked in a larger scale, had more time and a little more talent.

Dont be afraid to give it a go. if i can do it then i am sure any of us can if we all took our time.

Not much chance of that i'm afraid. its just too much plumbing.

Also concidering the latest markits price increase you have to bear in mind that it will cost well over £50 just for the wheels. its crazy. I do have 1 loco on the drawing board but generally i am going to stick to the coaches for the time being.

Peter
I wish I felt the same but I love building locos so I'll just have to wear the cost. Coaches are something I'll have to have a go at unless you count Kitmaster as coach kit.

ok just to show we all get it wrong sometimes. yesterday i went to spray the teak basecote on 3 GNR 6 wheelers. someone saw my quad art at the chatham show and said they wanted it a darker shade so i popped a couple of drops if black in the basecote. i forgot that yellow and black make green! for a few hours yesterday i had 3 lime green teak coaches. it was only when i moved away from the spray booth and into natural light that i realised the mistake!

Alot of bad language insued but after they had dried i repainted them in the correct colour and i think there is no harm done!!

I will post pictures when they are done. (both in teak and in green!!)

You could have pretended that they had gone mildewed

OK i have been very busy lately so i thought it was time for an update.

here is the picture of the green GNR coaches!! unfortunatly the colour dosent show up very well but they were LIME green!!

The midland coaches are now nearly finished. the roofs have been nade and painted. i used 247developements whitemetal lamp tops and torpedo vents because i wasnt happy with the plastic ones from ratio.

I now have the parts for the articulation system for the quad art and i got the first 2 parts on their bogies last night. i need to get some more press studs as i accidently soldered 2 of them on upside down! the effect of the MJT articulastion system is very good i think.

I now have london tilbury and southend coaches to build.

Coaches look good but whats the SP GS-5 lurking in the background for. Is it the Bachmann one? I just sold a Sunset brass one a couple of weeks ago.

Yep its the bachmann one. complete with smoke! alot of people complain about the chassis on it (its a split froam) but mine is a fantastic runner. I would love a norfolk and western J class to park along side!

the loco to the right is a chinese SS1 made by a new company called hai dar. its a very good runner but suffers a little from bachmann stiction syndrome!

Peter
Peter, I did have a Bachmann GS-5 a few years ago. At that time it wasn't the chassis so much as the wheels that gave problems. I ended up getting a Bowser replacement chassis and wheels and I fitted a Sagami can motor. I still have a couple of daylight coaches that I started to paint and maybe when Bachmann bring out their Spectrum quality model of the GS I 'll buy another. I had 4 Bachmann N&W "J" class with two complete Rivarossi train sets to make a pair of excellent trains. I actually prefer the Bachmann model to the Broadway limited model, terrible sound system inthe BLI and the colours aren't right. You should try the new Bachmann sound equipped "J". With the Tsnumai sound decoder it's a winner.

I have been pretty busy recently.

The GWR coach now has its roof ribs and is very nearly finished. i am waiting for some gas tanks for the underframe and some bogies but thats about it. spraying the ends and the roof is a quick job.
The ratio coaches are all but done. the bogies need painting. i have used brass trucks instead of the rather flimsy plastic bogies.
The SR van is ready for paint. (i will not do that and this coach is complete from my point of view. it will leave my bench at the end of the week)
The BG is all but done. it needs stepboards and the chassis painting black.
Behind all that are My TPO's that will get their bogies later this week.

next are 5 LT&S coaches from a batch of 8 i am building. one of which is in etch primer. the next one along has its roof but no vents yet and the rest are awaiting roofs. these are the current project.

Behind them are the chassis from the quad art. all finished and ready to go.

I thought it was about time i updated this thread. i have been very busy since i got back from china and many of the projects on this thread are now complete. i have finished the night ferry (and also completed a second in the last few days)
The 4 midland coaches have gone off to have their transfers put on. the BG has been finished and has gone as has H25 and the southern van, 6 of the 8 LT&S coaches have been painted in teak and have gone.

Photo's of the above will be posted in due course when i get a half decent studio shot.

The TPO's are now on their bogies but still need a little work.

I have a GWR inspection saloon on the go

A 247 developements LNWR milk truck.

Someone saw my GWR 4 wheelers and wanted me to line his for him. lining the brown bottom half was relativle easy. but i will also line the top half in order to hide the dodgey paintwork around the edges of the pannels. the lining will be unprototypical but it will look much better. unfortunatly he used a gloss cream and it is proving very difficult to line. i will give them a coat of matt varnish and try again. unfortunatly this is having to wait as i have no matt varnish!

I am also doing a large rake of drednought coaches. I have built 4 which i didnt take any pictures of but they will come back to me soon for painting. i have started the next 3 which got folded up last night. they use a 1 piece shell which would be very difficult to fold if i didnt have a freind with a really good folding tool!!

Actually I have put my coronation on ice. About 14 months ago I was made aware of a new kit that was designed and all but ready to go. I even had a close look at some of the castings. all that was needed was a final test build to check dimensions and check the corrections that had been made. This test build simply wasnt done buy the person who agreed to do it and 14 months on they are no closer to getting the kit on the market. BUT the etches are being returned from the (almost) builder to the manufacturer so they can be given to someone else. -quite possibly me!!

The new kit is for the coronation/west riding and the silver jubilee's.

After a nice break for christmas i have had a busy week working on some continetal stock. a year ago i bought a resin bodyshell for a Czech streamlined pacific. i have been keeping an eye out for suitable chassis to try and avoid making my own. i was in a shop the other day and found a suitable lima loco but i thought it was a little expensive and i didnt need the tender drive mechanism. luckily there was another man in the shop who not only had already tackled this particular loco and was able to offer me some advice but also was looking for a tender drive mechanism. so we offered the guy a tenner each and he took home the tender.

i also found lurking on the back of a shelf 2 motor bogies. they are a bit like bull ant bogies but japanese made. they seem to run nicely enough so i will fit them in the tender.

I have started buy slicing off the large sprue on the resin casting.

Time for a quick update. I bought a posh tripod about a week ago and i wanted to try it out!

The 2 end coaches for the polish stock have been sent to poland for approval and I have been working on some other stuff in the meantime while I wait for them to return.

Here is the silver jubilee kitchine triplet interior.

And some metropolitan A stock

My beloved QJ is being sent to bachmann this week and i took one last picture before she goes off for her tweak.

Not yet sorry. there were a couple of problems with it. all the slots had to be opened out resulting in alot of broken drills! Its a fairly easy problem to fix but time consuming.

It hasnt changed since i took these pictures but the window bollections should srrive over the next couple of days (probably monday) so i will continue with the bodyshell then.
I also have some bogies for it to sit on that i havent got around to doing anything with yet.
