automatic forward and reverse

hi there

just started buliding an L shape layout from my old parts

i want to have it running backwards and forwards automatically when i last had the layout running about 7 years ago
i had the switching done for me which used relays to change the current to reverve the train i cant remember how to connect it to the layout any member know how to advise me would be appreciated as i wont to keep this type of system if possible

There are many ways to control a "shuttle" & most "electrical people" will achieve the same result in different ways.

You may be better off to buy a new unit from someone like Gaugemaster or Kent Panel Controls (or one of the other electronics companies) who all make simple to connect reliable units.
I also think they do a shuttle via a capacitor[?], so the train starts and stops realistically?
hi thanks for the replys i will check these kent panelcontrols depends on costs as i ont want to have to change all my power supplies again

You can also do this with DCC if you want to update your system. This can include a predetermined stop over in station time

It's done electronically.
