Hi there, I am wondering if anyone is going to do a review of the Bachmann Std 4 mogul.
I have found the reviews most helpful, and living down here in New Zealand, I am still waiting to see one in the flesh so to speak.
I would order one from UK, but I have been waiting for a review and some nice close up pics.

Cheers,
Andy

Now I don't own one, but have had a friend's running on my layout. I am sorely tempted, even though it's a poor fit for my modelling location, (the very similar Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 actually more appropriate) simply because it is pretty much a 'bang-on' model. We robbed a spare Hornby 8F body I had of the windshields that Hornby provide between the cab windows, and added them to the 4MT's cab side, and there is an intention to put chequer plate treads on top of the buffer stocks in time, so there are one or two detail improvements that can be made. Ran nicely and pulled well. For pictures Hattons are your friend:

Thanks for your reply...Very helpful. I actually only want it for display, as I don't have a layout.I Just collect locos I have worked on, and or saw in my younger days at Southampton.

Cheers,
Andy

I have just had a look at the Hattons site, and agree that the loco does look good.....However, one glaring mistake.....It seems to have a Stanier type LMS 'Hooter' on top of the manifold !!
Not correct. It should have the BR standard small whistle, as per the other Class 4's ( 2-6-4T and the new 4-6-0 )...Why on earth would they make that mistake ??

Andy

It looks suspiciously like what the preserved operational loco is carrying. Do a google of 76079, and there are a fair number of images available. Here's one:

Hi....I have looked at pics of 76079, and you are correct that it does have an LMS hooter fitted.
Owners prerogotive I guess. However, it is quite a mistake for Bachmann to make on the other locos.
I wonder if we should point it out ? They got it right with the later number series Class 5's not having the whistle behind the chimney.......

Andy,

I should drop them a line, explaining what would be correct based on your experience. They have sorted out detail errors on other items. Realistically I expect to see more and more such errors where a 'post withdrawal in-preservation variation' is superimposed onto models of members of the same class in BR service.

Well, I have sent them an email explaining the situation.......Lets see if they reply.
