Hi Zach,

I have been doing it the other way round and getting rid of my Hornby couplings and have been fitting my stock with the small Hornby plug in,Bachmann small screw on type. They are ok but have to make sure not to couple/uncouple on a curved piece of track although my indoor layout ( 8' x 2' ) doesn't have very sharp curves the hooks sometimes cross over and throw the wagon off.

Hi Zach and Paxman,

One thing I use to check this is a small wooden block 2 grooves the gauge of the track ( mine is 9mm thick ) and cut to the right depth gives a coupling height gauge. This will the identify the wrong height ones.

Using a height guage (small wooden block in my case ) if the coupling is high in the use of Bachmann 36-030 NEM pocket type, just ease it down in the locating groove or put a piece of packing under it If it is low the top of the fixing lug would need filing, bit of trial and error. Other couplings should not present a problem, I have used the above and 36-025 standard and 36-026 long screw on type and Hornby R8220 push in. I also have some stock with Dapol push in, for this and the hornby wedge a thin piece of plastic or card above or below as needed.
