Bachmann Deltic 55002

I picked up my bachmann Deltic yesterday and nice that it is i was slightly disappointed that it wasn't a "D" number but a tops number. That aside I noticed a curiosity with it. The leading wheels are narrower in profile to the middle and trailing axles. The middle and trailing wheelsets measure .110thou but the front wheelset measure .090thou. Why
Is there a problem with the size of the wheelbase on this model or is it something else

55002 is in green with full yellow ends as it was painted following preservation in the NRM collection (just been painted blue) hence the tops numbers. The bogies are i believe only powered on the 2 inner axles thus making it a 1-bo-bo-1 not a true co-co. Probably exzplains the different size wheels.

Spongebob, it seems to be an oddity with Bachmann 6 axle diesels that only the first two axles on any powered bogie are driven, the rear being an idler. I never had an American diesel that was driven this way and I did have some old ones. Even early Bachmann Spectrum models of 6 axle diesels. GE Dash 8-40C, had all wheel drive. Thanks for the info on the Bachmann Deltic. I noticed on various Deltic sites that that it was a dead ringer for the real thing.

Apparently the newer class 37's have 6 axle drive so maybe the new deltics will be the same. Probably just doing the co-co on the cheap by modifying the older bo-bo drive towers.Naughty Bachmann.

In case you haven't seen the repainted KOYLI heres how she looks now.....

Nice pictures but why BR blue it's a horrible colour. I didn'y like it when it first came out and I still don't like it. But I expect it made the beancounters happy and Beeching even happier having swept away the last vestiges of the old order.
