Help needed. I bought from Precision Labels the magnets and headcode frames to make up the WR headcodes carried by steam. Most locos don't present a problem but I need to place the magnet on the inside of the smokebox door. Does anyone know how to remove the weight and access the inside of the smokebox door on the Bachmann Hall?.

Not to sure on the Bachmann Hall but as it's an older model using a split frame chassis I don't think the smoke box door comes off. I would suspect that you will have to remove the chassis and see if there's any space to fit the magnets.

This isnt the split frame chassis think i will just glue the metal number frame onto the smoke bax. Just fitted the South West Digital GWR 2cyl sound system absoloutly stunning. Unfortunately having difficulty fitting the body back on

where did you place the decoder ?, and the speakers ?

First better say the loco is CONYNGHAM HALL put speaker in tender chip in loco but had to removeexisting chp holder as Sout Wests chip is longer and wouldnt fit unless placed at an angle. Ideally i would like to have put the chip in tender but not sure if cutting and resoldering wire between chip and plug is a good idea. Also there would have been a thick set of wires between loco and tender. I didnt take any pics but to be honest having seen the standard of craftsmanship on this site i think someone else would do a better job. I do recommend this sound chip its worth all the effort. Hope that helps.

There are ways, when I fitted sound in the Q1 I simply cut a slot in the weight in the tender to allow the sound decoder and speak to fit. Have a look at this :
fitting sound
now I have a lathe I can be more innovative.........................................

consider a fourway micro plug between loco and tender they work very well and reducing the size of the wire (strip a ribbon cable) I would like to see some pictures. SWD wouldnt produce a sound decoder if it was impossible to fit them, so don't give up on this. What size speaker do you have ?

Its all back together as i said and the sound is stunning, not sure i agree that sound systems are made to fit as you have to butcher the locos to get the things in. How much better if there was some co-ordination between manufacturers and DCC suppliers to ensure fitting was easy. Bear in mind altering locos so drastically will invalidate warranty.
