My Local hobby shop have advised me that the Bachmann 9F's have arrived. Evening Star and a black 9F with early totem have landed. Unfortunately I haven't seen them yet so I can't comment on the quality but fear not my cousin who is much closer to a hobby than me, I'm 7and 1/2 hrs away, has already got his so I'm waiting on his comments.

Not acording to Hattons, I'm still awaiting my Evening Star. Perhaps some Pirates diverted the container to Sidney.

According to John Turner 53A models Bachmann are hording them at Barnwood. They will be released following Bachmann's open day, next weekend. Sounds a bit like prisioner being released on parole.
Of course if you live in the southern colonies these rules don't apply. But watch out for Redbacks !

So another delay just to show it off to the press and trade people who have probably already had advance versions for a few weeks now anyway.
Might sound a bit daft but China to Australia would be quicker than China to England or I would've thought so anyway.
Hate to dampen anyones obvious enthusiasm but the Australian one appears to be in HO from what I gather. Could be wrong of course

Yep, you are. It's definetly "OO" scale designed to run on "HO" scale track. What I'd like is a "OO" scale one that runs on "OO"scale track and save me the bother of converting them.

True but like John West we only get the best and throw the rest back, minus the boat

This is Where I got the HO bit from unless one of the ebayers from down under is trying to appeal to HO modellers wih a OO product. Makes a change from lima HO sold as OO though.
Item number...

Look even more impressive at the side of HO stock won't it.
I think in our case we should change the subject to "Bachmann space ships are delayed again".

Don't tell me, they signed a deal with the North Koreans to send them over on one of their ballistic missiles. Now there's a thought, North Korea that untapped haven of cheap labour and no problems with the human rights issues of paying a pittance for 23 hours a day work.
QUOTE (Bachmann Europe PLC)Release of 9F Class locomotives

Bachmann Europe PLC has today issued the following press statement in response to information being circulated on two model railway internet sites over the weekend, regarding the release of 9F Class locomotives.

"Some 9F locomotives have been received at Barwell, with further supplies expected towards the end of this week. We took the conscious decision to wait for all three versions to be available, so that they could be distributed together. In the past we have been criticised for releasing them one at a time. With the deliveries so close together it was considered beneficial to our trade customers to distribute them at the same time.

Our trade open days were fixed long before the delivery arrangements for the 9F were known and the timing is purely coincidental. Please note that our trade open days are only open to our trade customers and are strictly by invitation only.

Delivery of all three versions of the 9F will commence next Tuesday".

Okay I now have some pictures of the Bachmann 9F Evening Star. I'm sorry about the quality but these are courtesy of my cousin who as you may notice dosen't have a railway yet. They are at http://charlesemerson.fotopic.net .There are a couple of others mainly NSW steam all kit built including an AD 60 class Garrett.

something dosent look quite right about the loco/tender connection.

Peter
Like what, looks like a standard Bachmann drawbar except it's long coupled and with it sitting on a table cloth it may not be sitting evenly.

yes. i think i am just going crackers.

i was looking more at the foot plate rather than the coupling. but the real ones are like that too.

yes the cantelivered footplate. Caused quite a stir when "Brittania" was revealed and was used on most of the tender standard designs. I thought it looked awful on a Hornby Brittania so I changed the drawbar to a close coupled variety and it has improved the look no end. Now the fireman doesn't need a compass and a cut lunch to find the shoveling plate.

Having at last had a chance to have a good look at one of these beasts I have the following comments to make.

Bachmann have mixed a cast chassis / footplate with a plastic boiler - this means that the lower firebox sides and chassis / footplate have a different, glossier paint finish. The opportunity to define the frames has also been missed - the chassis (very visible) behind coupled wheels three and four is just one big lump.

My other grouse is that the brake hangers on the tender have been moulded to the frame. Having gone to the trouble of making all the brake rigging and water scoop the chassis is let down by this (although it could be removed and re-worked).

Has anyone tested its haulage potential?

John Turner 53A models tried one yesterday and it pulled 55 wagons round his layout. I regard his reports as reliable
