QUOTE (TonyDaly @ 13 May 2008, 23:18) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hello Everyone.
I have some old Triang,Airfix,Wrenn & Mainline locos which I would like to run on DCC when I get the chance.
I was wondering what would be the best decoders to run in these locos. I was thinking of Lenz silver but am unsure of what model to use. Any help from someone who has done these type of locos would be gratefully received.
Thanks.

***Hi Tony - I always use a TCS T-1 for these - lots of room and the T1 has huge power handling plus excellent back EMF at a very very reasonable cost - the Wrenn/Dublo stuff really runs well with them too.

QUOTE (TonyDaly @ 14 May 2008, 06:03) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi Mike & Richard.
Would you also suggest TCS decoders for modern DCC ready locos ?
Also sugestions as to the best price & where to get them? You can PM this info if you like.

**Hi Tony - Yes, I use them everywhere I don't put a sound decoder - they are universally excellent and the goof proof warranty is excellent!

Several UK dealers stock them but the one I know best and highly recommend is Bromsgove models - he's a nice guy with good prices + excellent service - and a Forum member too!

QUOTE (john woodall @ 14 May 2008, 14:33) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi Richard,

Are they on a par with ESU lokpilots, both in terms of price and performance?

Cheers

John

***Hi John - yes in my opinion they are.

They may not have some of the LokPilot features such as Marklin brake section etc, but apart from that when we A-B tested Zimo, Lenz Gold, TCS and ESU LP, for running qualities, there was no discernable difference in "out of the box" running quality between Zimo, ESU and TCS but they all performed better with the test loco than Lenz!

They DO consist better and have better light control than ESU though - especially on the more complex US lighting needs - for example their dimming is the best I have seen (this is commony acknowledged with tcs vs other brands)

I put that down to the clunky harder to adjust implementation of Back EMF by Lenz rather than a quality issue - if I'd spent some time tweaking the gold it'd I'm sure it'd have been fine - but the whole idea was that it was an "out of the box everything set at defaults" comparison!

Best price and warranty too!

Richard
