What a wonderfully characterful model. Anyone know what the linkage between the domes is for? (Wild guess: to accomodate someone's patent design of steam take off valve to get the driest steam possible.)

Hissings could be injectors operating (usually a slightly bubbly sound), cylinder drain cocks open or steam sanders working (often a slightly whistly sound) and safety valves lifting (a real roar). Gratings could be fireman shovelling coal, or the grate being rocked if such provision existed.
