Any member planning on visiting the British Toy Fair 2008 on Wednesday Jan 30?

I'm interested in finding someone who can give us a show report and pick up some press packs on our behalf.

well

I didnt know quite what to expect but i came away thinking i am really not missing anything buy not visiting the show. i also do plastic kits and it was interesting to see airfix and revell and a couple of others.

Stand wise hornby dominated the area but the people on it were suits and were pretty unfriendly. i had visited the bachmann stand first where they were really eager to show off their new products to anyone who would listen. they gave me the big press pack and i mentioned i was from the forum and they politly removed my press pack and dissapeared. i thought i had offended them but they returned a few seconds later with a CD with it all on.

It was interesting to talk to some different people. on the bachmann stand the designers were there and I had a long chat with one of them and i asked about the scanning they did of the prototype deltic. to mee this was fascinating.

Then I walked over to the hornby stand and started to look around. There were no test shots on the stand. The new IR DCC unit was on display but nothing that interested me.

Both stands were very slick but the hornby one was really huge due to the sheer range of stuff they are now making.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,
my knowledge is very lacking in this area, do you know what the locos in the second and third photo are known as? The one marked 9449, and especially the loco in the 3rd picture marked 49395, that one in particular looks very interesting.

Thanks,
/Pat

Thanks for that Peter. They may not be glamorous, but I am strangely attracted to them in the same way as the Q1 model got my attention when I saw it! I seem to be strangley drawn to the uglier stuff rather than the flashier locos for some strange reason. Thankfully, this policy does not carry on into other areas of life such as cars or women
!

Nice looking locos those super Ds, especially 49395. Thanks again for the pictures and the information. One for the credit card to take care of later in the year, along with he new T9. Its going to be another expensive year I think.

49395 is listed as part of the NRM collection and as a 'G2' class, built 1921-22. Is this the same as a 'Super D'?

"Super D" has become generic for the superheated G1 & G2 variants - they ended up widely spread and were a very successful heavy freight loco. Interestingly this is one of the very few where one set of the H spoke LNWR drivers really IS supposed to be flangeless - it'll be interesting to see the "on the web" comments when its released like it should be :) :) ......

Thank you Peter for an interesting series of photos, nothing that tickles my fancy on the railway front, but the Dalek thing looks good. I may have to invest in one.

Bachmann. its in this years catalouge. it was obviously a hand painted prooving model and i thnk it was a virgin one they had luying around.

the colours were good but not so sure about the lining on the big "X" but as i said its only a hand finish test shot. lets see what the production ones are like.

The livery is growing on me.
