VENUE

CONVENTION AT A GLANCE
· Two Friday afternoon modelling clinics from our overseas guest presenter.
· Our usual Friday evening informal social function at the hotel.
· Saturday program from 9am with a varied agenda to suit all tastes, including prototype and modelling subjects with further presentations from our overseas guest.
· National Modelling Competition and supervised Bring & Buy stall.(BRMA Members only)
· Trade support from local and inter-state traders.
· BRMA AGM.
· Ladies Saturday tour to be arranged if sufficient demand.
· Formal dinner on Saturday evening.
· Sunday morning layout tour around the Eastern and South Eastern suburbs. A program of 12 layouts, all of which are either new to the BRMA convention or have seen extensive changes since the last visit in 2004. To allow time at each layout, the tour will be split into groups with each group visiting 4 layouts.
· Program concludes with a spit roast lunch on Sunday.
· Plans in progress to allow access to other layouts in other suburbs in the days around the convention.
GUEST SPEAKER - IAN FUTERS
We are very pleased that Ian Futers has agreed to join us for the 2010 convention.
Ian is one of the most well known names in British Modelling - especially on the exhibition circuit - and has perhaps produced more exhibition layouts than any other individual.
He has been modelling for more than 35 years and having started in OO, he progressed through the fine scales of EM and P4 and for some years now has modelled in 7mm finescale.
Ian's minimum space exhibition layouts, especially those of the Scottish Highlands and English/Scottish Border regions are legendary. Readers of British modelling magazines will no doubt recall such gems as Lochside, Otterburn, Loch Lochty and Newcastle Haymarket. And according to Hornby Magazine, his new Ullapool layout was one of the highlights of the Warley show in 2009.
Ian is also a well known author in the modelling press, having contributed articles for more than 35 years. His March 1974 plan for a circular layout in Railway Modeller is still well remembered by many and he is currently running a series of articles in the same magazine on Scottish Highland stations.
In fact, Ian is an authority on the Scottish Highland lines and his many publications in this area include a recent book "Modelling Scotland's Railways". Although only recently published, it has already become a definitive reference book on the subject and we understand that a follow up is planned.
Ian is currently planning his clinics and presentations about the prototypes (with a Scottish bias) and about the models with an emphasis on designing, planning and construction minimum space layouts. Ideal for shoe-horning -in that industrial siding, branchline, etc. The latter may well include Ian's exhibition experiences generally. A further talk will be on Weathering using dry and air brush techniques.
