As usual our venue remains the excellent St Anselm's School for Girls on New Dover Road, Canterbury, about 100 yards down the hill from the New Dover Road Park and Ride Facility.

The show is held over two halls and boasts plenty of free parking, disabled access, very good hot and cold food at very reasonable prices and a cornucopia of model railway layouts and a good selection of traders.

As always we have tried to balance the use of space available to us to provide ample room for movement in the aisles. If you are disabled and require assistance, one of our many friendly and helpful show stewards will be happy to help.

We welcome families with small children but politely ask parents to keep their charges under control and not allow them to touch the models. We provide hop-ups, for smaller enthusiasts to view the layouts, which are available in the main entrance for a small refundable deposit.

For those attending whose wives, girlfriends, partners etc do not share your enthusiasm for all things railway-related, we suggest you use the park and ride carpark. You can park all day and have unlimited use of the park and ride buses for a very reasonable £2 and they can go into Canterbury city centre to enjoy the sales.

Layouts booked are;

Westcliff, Harton Gill, Loughborough, Gravel Bottom, Ravens Rock, Tan y Bwlch,
Abbots Barton, Mariaholtz Klabondorf, St Laurent en Ardennes, Nevermoor,
Windsor GWR (Colorado), Chillingbourne, Belmont Road, Hayeseden, Wansbeck Road,

Traders booked are;

Euroscale Models, The Signal Box (Rochester), Woodpecker Books, N Gauge Lines,
East Kent Railway, Engine Shed Toys, Ray Morris, Dave's Railway Films,
Kent Garden Railways, Realistic Modelling Services, Modeller's Mate, Harbour Heights,
Railway Correspondence and Travel Society, Carriage and Wagon Models, David Wills,

I understand that at least one somewhat suspect outfit will be attending.

*** Thats a shame - until yesterday I would have been in UK able to attend, but Sue now has a major spine operation scheduled for the Friday before so I have delayed my trip by a few days to see here through it.

Looking forward to this. Apart from unwrapping my Thalys and giving it a quick run round the track I've had little time for anything railway oriented for the last month what with starting a new job, christmas, and the birth of my son.

Also got a 4VEP kit from my mum for christmas that I've no idea when I'm going to find the time to build.

Hopefully looking at some models should spur me on to making time, somehow.

Its this weekend Guys n Gals. If you can make it it would be lovely to meet old friends and put faces to name of new ones.
I must apologise for my absence from MRF lately. Ive started a new job back in Nov and they are keeping me busy, which is lovely as I enjoy the work, but it does impact on time available for hobbies etc!

Hopefully, someone will be able to post some pictures & a report - Steve & myself only managed a couple of quick "walk rounds" during the weekend, but we can say that there was a good selection of layouts & traders.

Sales were not too bad considering the lack of money about, most sales were smallish & figures were probably the best seller. The footfall through the door looked as though it was quite good too.

As for SL - did it play up for the first hour ! - by 11 I was looking for some matches !, however, it settled down fairly quickly & ran very well for the rest of the weekend, which was just as well as I spent a lot of time giving out lollies (two boxes) for enthusiastic penguin spotters.

Many thanks to Steve over the weekend & also to Mark (my neigbour) who helped set up & break down the stand & layout.

Thanks also to CCMRS for inviting us, putting up with us & feeding us.

I didn't bother taking the camera after Broadstairs as the lighing there was appalling and the ceilings too high to bouce a flash to good effect, so felt, rightly, that the school setting at the weekend would be equally poor.

I'd have to agree with Switchblade. The lighting up in the top hall is appalling. If it wasn't for the sales stand having its own lighting I think sales of scenics would have suffered. I never had any intention of taking photos this year as attempts at two previous shows wernt up to much due to the lighting problems. I did however manage to complete my Autoballaster train and made a start on my IPA car transporter train with the purchase of 6 wagon packs making a 12 wagon train. I also picked up an ariel rescue pump which will be rebranded into Kent Fire Service and used on a cameo project.
