Hiya thought id post some taster pictures for my new layout !!! Chalingbrook MTD - South Eastern Train Care Depot.

Its OO Gauge and is a modern Image Motive Tractive Depot. I havent done much more than the track laying and a small amount of detail work.
I intend to fully detail this layout and will be fully signalling and fitting all modern track fittings !!

Hiya,

Sorry i havent posted much about this for a long while, I have been working on it between other projects. Anyway here is the new stuff and the improvements!!

The workmen are busy doing water pipe repairs outside the shed,

The shed has taken a long time to design and about three days to build and it still isnt finished - missing a roof, gutters, window and door frames, main doors, interior fittings and lighting................. thats all still to come..... It also still needs to be plastered into the base but i cant do that untill i have finished the overall building................... It is built from Wills brick and South East Finecast Cladding with the H and I beams from Plastruct and the roof joists being hand made from sheets of plasticard. the entire structure so far consists of just short of 1300 parts.

here some locomotives wait outside the shed - probably for it to be finished..................................

Here the 1960s power box nestles just to one side of the road bridge - built into the rear retaining wall...... I have built the entire interior of the powerbox too and the computer and power board are all lit with miniature LEDs - It is scratchbuilt from wills brick plastics and plastikard........... There is a roadway running underneath as i wanted to build something a little bit different. The Retaining walls are also built from scratch using Slaters Brick sheet and an awful lot of foamboard and superglue!

To break up the monotany of the brick walls i built this pump room into the wall complete with working lights and little pumps , operaters stand and desk!!

Here my only steam engine , an N15 is seen to be passing the older buildings in the island area of the layout.................... the larger building s scratchbuilt from will plastics - brick and the other is part ratio kit which has been heavily altered and had its windows boarded up - i then planted ivy up the walls........

some of my trackwork improvements - the point motors and equipment havent been weathered down here yet........................

and i have added a awful lot more detail most of which i will photograph when i have more time and after the full layout is completed........... its going to be a full 20 foot long now with a 4 foot fiddle yard...................!

Hope you all like it ......................................... It will be attending our model show in peacehaven on october 3rd in peacehaven this year ad hopefully will all be complete ( all 20 foot of it ) and running !!!!!

A set of Bush Orange Blinkers would jsut set off the roadworks scene a treat ! (shameless sales plug).

gonna have a look at modelworld tommorrow .......... might find some there......................

You say it's going to be 20ft long but what width it the shed area please? I'm toying with somthing like it myself only as a preserved railway.

Ian

Hiya Ian,

Thanks for your nice comments!!!
Its acctually 24 foot long but 4 foot is the fiddle yard on the end so dont really count!!!! the boards are two foot wide basically cause we couldnt be bothered to cut them when we brought them from B&Q. They are 6mm thick MDF on a 2x1 wood frame. my otherhalf makes my boards up for me. we glue and srew all the joins and there is a lot of bracing underneath. slightly heavier than other peoples layouts but it stays very rigid!!

There will be a modern steam depot on board 2 for the mainline visiting steam engines ................ a washing plant and another diesel shed ( for the shunters )and lots lots more................................................

hope this helps.......

Unfortunatly, we are now out of stock (spelt Busch wrong - lose a brownie point).

Look forward to seeing you there - both BRITHO & I are going to confirm out Leader orders as well (the book is there for you to collect to).

Hiya,

I have been busily trying to finish Challingbrook board 1 as i want to get started on the second board. It is meant to be going to exhibition in October and i think its possible to complete them both and all my other projects by then!

Anyway - I have been changing quite a lot on my layout, mainly scenery just generally neatening it up and of course adding more buildings, the bridge and detailing. I have also started to paint the large retaining walls at the back of the layout.

Anyway i thought i would post some more pictures of things i have done...

Firstly i have updated a lot of areas,

Ive added some much larger lights right outside the engine shed.

I have added a coach cleaning platform now and greatly increased the scenery around the area it is .

Ive added fencing and completed the back car park and the roadway under the power box - i have also started to finish the retaining walls.

I have also been planting an awful lot of plants and trees to try and improve my scenics. here are some of the close close ups.....

I also decided to have some men strimming back the brambles so made a tiny weeny strimmer for a bachmann figure......

And some random shots from around the depot....

In the shed

Fragonset lineup outside the shed

Still have to build 11 building fronts and put a roof on the big shed. I am also about to pull out all the yard lights that are currently fitted and replace them with ones from Express Models as they look an awful lot better. There is still a lot more detailing to be fitted but most will wait untill both boards are ready.....

Nikki great stuff there.

View of the tracks looking from inside the shed,I liked that one specially.

Photos could've been bigger in size though.

Stunning work Nikki & thanks for the pictures.

As I have been lucky enough to actually see some of Nikki's work I have to say that if anyone gets the opportunity, it's well worth making the effort to go & see it for yourself. It really is superb.
