Every year I buy myself a loco for Christmas, so I know on Christmas day I will open at least one railway item. Last year was a Class 33, a good running loco, but we all know the problem with the roof!
So this year, what to buy ?
Though A Southern fan I have a urge for a Green class 108, or should it be another M7? Will Hornby bring out the King Arthur in time?
Does anyone else treat them selves, and what are you going to buy this year?
2 x Roco HOe digital sets
1 x Roco HOe tender steam loco
1 x Roco HOe 0-6-0 Steam
1 x Bemo HOe 0-6-0 diesel
2 x Lenz Silver mini
1 x Loksound BR99 sound decoder
1 x Hornby IKB Class 60 Rail Express Ltd Edition
Maybe a Heljan 26 in green
Already ordered 108, on its way from Hattons as we speak.
Next Year, Ecos !!
BTW all my Roco HOe models and sets were imported from model dealers in Germany via Ebay and cost around 30%-50% less than the best prices I could find in the UK. Generally arrive quicker too than stuff I order in the UK
Reading the comment on the Heljan class 33 - surely the inaccuracy of the shaped roof has little to do with the class 33s running capabilities - my model 33s runs perfectly and doubt if anyone would really condem such a fine model. The shape of the roof has no effect in anyway to the 33s control other than knowing that Heljan made an error in its manufacture.
QUOTE (Doug @ 2 Dec 2006, 19:22) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The Roco Digital HOe tender locos are just fantastic.
They are great are they not.
I only recently discovered them as I am going to build a cement works which is served by narrow as well as standard gauge. The Bemo diesel is also excellent and can just about get a decoder in it. The Loksound is going (just) in the tender HOe loco with a 13mm speaker.
The two digital sets have the similar 0-6-0 tank loco.
I hoping to buy myself another diesel loco as i only have three at the moment and i do like the Class 66 but also like the Class 60,but there are others i would like to have aswell but i will see as i can't get it till the 23rd December as that is when i'll have the money to get one.
I've decided to treat myself to the Hornby Mixed Goods DCC set to try DCC out and if i like it i will wire my layout up for DCC and upgrade to a bigger system sometime next year.
After over thirty years of running my two Fleischmann Warships (00 gauge), the pair are quiet in operation and never have caused any problems. The present Fleischmann models, today still use the same type of electric traction motor - though these modern day models emit a high level of noise as cpmpared to the Warship "silence" in operation.

Surely you mean "HO". Glad to know that your 30 Y.O. Fleischmann Warships are still running well although as a Fleischmann user for nearly 40 yeards I'm not really surprised !
Many of the newer Fleischmann locos now use a can type motor - many of the revamps are now doing away from the 3-pole motor. IMHO, this is still an excellent reliable motor & it runs very, very well on DCC with a decent decoder.
Regarding noise I have some silent & some noisy with both types of motor.
