Hi
Welcome to the forum.
You're kind of in luck. Bachmann's 4CEPs should be out in the next few months, but not in NSE or SWT - two SR greens (one with yellow warning panel, one without) and blue/grey. But don't hold your breath, we've been waiting quite a while already.

I should have added that Bachmann's version is the original 1960s 4CEP, not the refurb-ed 411. But good to be on the verge of a r-t-r emu, though. Hopefully there'll be a pre-production model at Warley in a couple of weeks. If there is, I'm sure someone on will post a pic on the forum.

Stangely enough I always preferred them in their original form, having said that I would like an NSE version

Not strange at all Dave,I'm with you on this, having a bit of a soft spot for the original version after commuting to school on them for years. For me their essential character was totally destroyed by the re-building,although saying that,if travelling in a Refurbished CEP/VEP combination,I would always opt to ride in the CEP..

Depending on your kit-buuilding skills, you could look at the DC Kits and Southern Pride websites. Southern Pride offer pre-printed sides but I don't know OTTOMH whether they offer NSE livery (they do offer it on some of their other Southern EMUs).

I know what you mean, I frequently used them in their original blue/grey both for school and pleasure (the spotting days - it was easy to get them all as most were based at Ramsgate!) I completely agree that the, for want of a better word, markoneness, totally disappeared on the rebuilding.

As for CEP/VEP combinations that was always CEP by preference.

DC kits at www.dckits-devideos.co.uk produce the original 4CEP.

Southern Pride at www.spride.demon.co.uk produce both original and refurbished versions although having checked website only have refurbished in blue/grey in stock.

If you are going for the original version, I am not sure they were in NSE colours. Refurbishment started in the mid 70's and were returned to traffic initially in blue/grey livery.

Hope that helps

Dave

As you say Dave the refurbs all appeared initially in blue /grey - nothing else, the originals only appearing in green or blue/grey.

Mind you a refurb in "JAffa Cake" would be nice.

Well,to be pedantic,[and this trivial minutiae is what we specialise in on these forums
] -those were the 2 official liveries,=there is readily available photographic evdence of some units carrying the interim liveries of either Blue/SYP or Blue/FYE...

Yup - that's pedantic, funnily enough I have photos of them like that as well, didn't really suit them though.

This might be a possible alternative. I managed to find a 1961 issue of Model Railway Enthusiast that has a feature on building a CEP by modifying Kitmaster Mk1 coaches, which you can still find in some places. Requires dishing out a lot of Plastikard and cutting and painting, that's if you are willing to paint the NSE colours and have a lot of time on your hands. The end product probably won't give you an accurate model, but rather a representation of one.

If you're going down the bashing line for the refurb you could do worse than buy a selection of old triang mark ones - they seem to be cheap enough on the trade stands at shows these days.

Hello everyone
I am new to this forum.
I am a southern nut and model 1975 to 1983.
Very much looking forward to Bachmann"s 4CEP and Dapols 205.
Just wish Hornby would do a mark 1 emu
