Class 66s exist in parallel universes, too!

For a reason as yet unbeknown to me, I was watching Doctor Who this evening- the Doctor travelled to a parallel world inhabited by Madmen, Businessmen, Cybermen and...

An EWS Class 66!

Things we never knew about Sheds!

(What is the betting that there is going to be another parallel universe where Class 66s never existed?)

I thought it looked like a model, did any one record it? At least they do not appear to have used stock film of a steam loco yet again, although they could have with all those Zeppelins flying about.

So what other kind of a loco should the BBC use for a Doctor Who show in parallel universe? How about the APT?

We still haven't got the next series of Doctor Who yet. In Australia we tend to be about a year or two behind telly wise. I was looking for ward to seeing David Tennant as Doctor Who but still no hint of when we are going to get it.

Some of the German streamlined locos from Epoch2 are dead certs for Doctor Who. They are pretty sinister looking things. Like this BR03

You can almost imagine the Cybermen stoking the fire.
It does look a bit like a spaceship with wheels.

It looked like a Bachmann EWS pulling Bachmann rolling stock.

Dr Who gets repeated on BBC3 (is it tonight Sunday or later in the week?).

Bearing in mind the Zeppelin theme and the general Cybermen storyline pinched from early 1930's Germany and the night of the long knives then anything streamlined from that period would seem appropriate.

The Marklin Zeppelin Railcar or a GWR Banana Railcar perhaps?

It has to be said that Dr Who is absolutely excellent and David Tennant has moved things forward.

Is the DVD available to our Aussie friends?

The BBC have already released the first 3 episodes of the new series on DVD.

Fortunately for Model Rail Forum fans the internet appears to have survived the transition into the Dr Who parallel universe and so no doubt there is an equivalent to Model Rail Forum in that universe!

Happy modelling

I probably would better to just buy the dvd as it doesn't seem to be coming here any time soon. I might just do that.

If it was the scene where Micky is confronted by a soldier and told about a curfew, then it was a real one, though the noise was reduced.
I tapped it directly onto my PC and did a screen cap of it (Lots of people wondering which one it is!). From what can be made out its 66127 ... and after a little hunting around it was seen on the water cannon at Newport on the 15 November 2005 ... So think that scene was filmed there or somewhere nearby.

Anyways for those who missed it, here is the screen cap of it.

Neil,

I like your German streamliner and that has given me an idea.

It seems that someone from the BBC does watch this site because there have been one or two enquiries from them about model railways, so whilst we have the opportunity let's post some pictures of really way-out but factual models of locos that could feature in later episodes of Doctor Who.

How about this one. In a parallel universe somewhere the NER mainline did get electrified.

Heres another one which is a bit more way out than the other one. A cab forward version of the Br05. Looks a bit like a submarine with wheels.

The Newport thing would fit as I believe doctor who is filmed a lot in Wales nowadays.
That BR03 looks an awful lot like a coronation class on steroids did we copy them or vice versa?
Missed the last 2 doctor who episodes mores the pity

Hey Good info Jennings. Thanks for the screen-shot.

I missed the train. Kids were engrossed in the program - I was on at the wife about how I used to be engrossed with Dr Who too as a kid, but as a cynical adult now, the lack of real science disappointed me in the series...

It's being repeated on BBC 3 at 7:15 pm tonight.
