After a year of inactivity, I once again started on the station area for the Langwiess station

Today I worked on the parking area, the road crossing (that currently goes nowhere) and the concrete platform between the two inside tracks. I'm not really happy with the color of the concrete, so I will repaint this before starting on the catenary. Still need trees and vegetation on the other end, and the back part of what is in the photos.

I really want to start on the catenary, but everything else below the catenary has to be finished first.

I ordered three different kinds of ground cover and a 50 count box of budget Heki conifer trees last night.

I'm going to use the trees to line the back of the station area so the tracks behind and below the station (return tracks) can't be seen when a train is going by.

For as cheap as the Heki trees are, they look pretty good from a couple of feet away. I have another 150 or so at different places on the layout and they look the part.

More work on Langwiess today after my scenery materials arrived. I have a few loose ends to tie up and the catenary erecting will begin.

This is not exactly as I pictured it turning out, but it is a reasonable representation of the station area. I was very short on room on the back edge of the sub-roadbed and had to use a building flat for the milch haus just to the left of the sation. I'm also missing a storage shed and an open sided shed to the right of the station and will probably use flats for those too.

I used Google Maps to get a shot of the milch haus structure, but I had to use my cell phone to take a pic since you can't do a screen shot on Google Maps. I'll do the same for the other two small structures when I get aound to it. I emailed it to myself and scaled it in Photoshop and then printed it and cut it out and pasted it to a piece of foam board.

The trees do a fair job of hiding the trains on the back return tracks. At least it breaks up the pantograph travel so it's not so noticable.

Love the RhB rolling stock and the station is coming along very nicely. Too bad there isn't enough room for the Langwieser viadukt. We spend a lot of time in Chur, Arosa and Zermatt every year so we get to ride the Allegras quite a bit but my favorite loco is still the Ge 4/4 II. I hope to ride the Capricorns in September.
