Hello all, need some information on DCC equipment. I was wondering how much power locos use whilst only placed on the track. Does the "Chip" require any current to keep it active or does a resting loco draw no power at all ?

A "resting" locomotive with no functions selected draws so little current it can be disregarded, unless you have many, many locomotives "on line" at the same time.

A single Lenz Silver Mini in a Dapol N Gauge 0-4-2T (no lighting connected) draws 10mA at rest according to my ESU ECoS.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the replies. I would love the ECoS system but the new prices, due to currency changes, make it pretty expensive. I believe over £500.00 I am currently using lenz 100 and 90 sets at the moment and have really enjoyed trouble free operating on track. About to start using them more extensively and on more than one layout so fingers crossed about the reliability i have enjoyed so far. Thanks again guys.
