DCC Select Unit

What can the Select unit control other than movement of the locomotive? And how do you program sound and lights?

On the chart here partial sound capabiltiy is mentioned

Though looking at the hornby instructions online no mention of light or sound is made, if you require both on a unit an upgrade may be the be needed .
