Decoder Install in a Bachman Hall

4036 Views 16 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  MarkyGWR
I have a Bachman Kinlet Hall, which is DCC ready, and thus has an onboard 8 pin socket.

I have purchased a decoder with a plug, but having taken the loco apart, there is no room to fit it, other than removing the front weight andd placing it in the boiler, which I would rather not do.

Does anyone know if any decoders with onboard pins such as the Lenz silver direct would fit?

Thanks

By a TCS decoder much cheaper and as good as or better performance, I think the one with the plug is the TCS M1-UK why not remove the plug and hard wire
in the decoder you'll have more space.

I have encountered the same problem and can see no where else except where the weight goes .I have tried fitting the new ZTC Diamond decoder (just the plug no wires) but there is not enough room. I have tried as recommended by MMAD the TCS M1 with a UK 8 pin plug but fitting in as above i.e. where weight goes the wires are not long enough. I guess the next step for me is to buy a TCS M1 without a plug and hard wire in direct.
Try a direct plug-in decoder, such as the TCS DP2X-UK - no wires and should just sit over the DCC socket.

Thanks,
I will be on the phone next week.

All the best.

Chirkwood could not get a ZTC4007 to fit so I doubt a TCS DP2X-UK will fit as they are virtually identical in size.
Try this site

(I left this on another topic site here)

very useful.

I found the ZTC4007 just a fraction too wide
Chirkwood,
Do you have the dimensions of the 4007, as I have done a search, and can't actually find them.

The TCS is Length: 0.845", Width: 0.680", Height: 0.165".

Thanks

Mark
Sorry I dont know them but I have just e-mailed ZTC to find out - as soon as they reply I'll let you know

Those dimensions aren't correct for the DP2X-UK. Should be:

Size:

* Length: 0.69" 17.5mm
* Width: 0.460" 11.7mm
* Height: 0.14" 3.5mm

See http://www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk/pd-14220...m?categoryId=90 for more details.

Hi Mark

ZTC have replied and dimensions are as follows for the ZTC4007

L 19.95mm x W 11.5mm x D 3.66mm

The TCS DP2X- UK is a fraction smaller and may well fit. If you decide to buy one from John and it fits okay perhaps you could let me know

Chirkwood,
Thanks for checking, I will order one, and will let you know how I get on.

All the best.

Chirkwood,
I am afraid it doesn't fit.

I even tried desoldering the socket, and removing the coil pack, but there just isn't enough room.

Next thing is to remove the weight just forward of the motor to see if I can get one in there.

Do you know if removing the coil pack creates any problems?

Neither tcs or ztc wireless decoders will not fit the hall they get in the way of the fastening screws,hardwire to a tcsmi this definitely works
Thanks Hereward, I will give it a go.
