QUOTE (upnick @ 25 May 2008, 14:58) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Good afternoon all,
Having time to spare this afternoon i decided to dcc one of my switchers, i am using a new TCS M1 decoder all went well on the programming track it finding 0003 factory settings of course.
After putting the loco on the main track it stuttered along the track in small movements could any of you tell me the reason as at the moment i have no control over it and want to do the right thing to rectify it and set its address.
It might be something simple i know but its a learning curve for me at the moment DCC and so ar i have had a good experience of it.

First thing - does the locomotive run well on DC analogue ? It is essential that the locomotive runs well before converting it to DCC. A well running locomotive will run better on DCC with a decent decoder (which the M1 is) - a poor running one will be worse.
Second thing - are the wheels & track clean ? - an absolute must. You may get reasonable running with dirty track, wheels & pickups with DC analogue but not with DCC !
Third thing - are all the pickups working correctly ? - if not, make sure that they are.
Also check to make sure that the speed steps on the decoder match the speed steps on your controller. If still no go try a factory reset on the decoder & try again.
Try these tips & let us know if they cure the problem.
BTW - what controller are you using ?
