DERBY MODEL RAILWAY EXHIBITION 2009

This year will see the 29th Derby Exhibition organised by the Mickleover Model Railway Group and the purpose of this notice is to ensure that everyone is aware of the new date and venue for this event.

16 & 17 May 2009
Moorways Sports Centre, Moor Lane, Derby DE24 9HY

After last year's show there were rumours circulating that 2008 was the final Derby show - however nothing could be further from the truth. Due to increasing costs at the previous venue for the exhibition, an alternative suitable location had to be found in order to safeguard the future of our show. After considering a large number of venues in the Derby area, Moorways Sports Centre was chosen. This change of location was not formally announced until the 2008 Derby exhibition to avoid any confusion with the dates and location of that year's show. Along with the change of venue has also come a change of date to the middle of May, partly due to the availability of the venue.

So, enough of the history, lets concentrate on this year. As already stated the show will be at Moorways Sports Centre, Moor Lane, Derby DE24 9HJ on 16 &17 May 2009 and will be open between 10.00am and 5.00pm on both days. Moorways Sports Centre is situated on the ring road to the south of Derby and has easy access from the A50 which links the M6 (north west) with the MI (north and south) and the A38 from the Midlands. The venue is also signposted on the ring road using brown 'visitor attraction' signs so hopefully making it easy to find. There is a regular bus service from the station (Arriva services 40/41) as well as free parking on the site or on the roadside in the area.

The new Exhibition Manager is Alex Hall, who is currently putting the final touches to the show, and we hope to be in a position to confirm the final details and admission prices shortly. The new venue enables the exhibits to be all on one level and the hall offers substantially better lighting than in some areas of the previous venue. As well as being an advantage to any mobility impaired visitors, the flat access and large unloading area to the rear of the venue will also be a welcome relief for exhibitors and traders alike, particularly those who have attended shows at the previous location
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the show. Please check our website at www.mmrg.org.uk for updated details.

Mike,
Thanks for the information. As you are a relative newcomer to the Forum, I wonder if you were aware of the 'Calendar' which can display 'Community' items, such as people's birthdays, or 'Events' such as exhibitions.

Putting exhibitions into the Events calendar means that they will be automatically flagged up on the Forum Index page from a month before the event. Click on Calendar at the top of the page to get to it.

Regards,
John Webb

Many thanks for your help and advice - I'll look at that later (at work at the moment!)

Mike
Time to bump this back to the top of the list - especially as our show was usually held towards the end of April - note this time we have a new date and venue. Directions and further details are in the postings above

Copied below is the confirmed list so far - the exhibition manager tells me there may be one or two more to be added.
