Do Bachmann read the Hornby Forum?


I have to laugh as there is always interesting feedback on Bachmann products posted in the Hornby Forum. It made me wonder if Bachmann every pay the Hornby forum a visit!

It is always very constructive feedback too so Bachmann will have few complaints and if they don't pop in occasionally it has to be recommended that they do!

If Bachmann ever had a forum on their website how do you suppose they would react to discussions about Hornby products!


The impression is Bachmann have no plans for a forum.

Should they have one or not?

At the moment Bachmann have to rely entirely on third parties for feedback. Bachmann do get upset occasionally with third party forum and website content. I guess Hornby do too however they do not seem to be as public about it. Not having their own forum and being able to provide direct feedback as a result surely has to be a handicap in the information age that we are in.

Bachmann have a popular forum in the US but not to their UK range.

I actually dont mind this as manufacturers forums are by their very nature biased.

Is the third party not the best place to get feedback from? other companies spend alot of money getting information from third parties. the moodel manufacturers get it handed to them on a plate!
I dont think there has ever been any shortage of feedback for any of the manufacturers. infact the model railway companies are very luckey that we hand it to them on a plate!

I would say almost certainly, I would think it very likely they also read this one and many others. At the end of the day they need to get feedback and by following various forums probably get a good indication of what we the public want.

Bachmann don't seem to react well to criticism (see RMweb if in doubt) so I really don't think a forum containing the good (and there is a lot of good) and the bad would go down well.

Its a shame because a good organisation should welcome feedback. Some of their products are great , but I must admit they do not come across as an organisation that is particularly friendly. Suspect this is due to the attitude at the top rather than their PR man.

They probably look at most forums including Hornby's where Bachmann seems to be treated fairly. With their current sensitive nature I think they'd best leave one of their own for the time being. ( That was tactful wasn't it?

Strange thing, sensitivity.

Those people and organisations that are sensitive don't need feedback and those that are insensitive don't listen to feedback, however much is given to them.

Totally agree about their PR man. I had a chat with Dennis at the end of the Saturday night of the Glasgow show and he was a pleasure to speak to. Also must mention Jim Maclellan(Scottish Bachmann rep) who was a really nice guy to talk to and was more than happy to chat despite weariness.

Forum or not, does Bachmann read any modelers comments? Certainly the few occasioned that I contacted Bachmann's, on their products becoming faulty and required to be returned for repair, shows this to be the case.
On one occasion, the model was returned to me, exactly in the same condition as originally sent - on tackling this issue, Bachmann's representative, categorically inferred that the model would not have been returned without being inspected and repaired - the fact that wires were still unsoldered did not cut any ice with them and required in my sending back again the model at my expense.
[for identifying the unsoldered wires, I originally attached small self paper adhesive markers - incidentally, markers were still attached].
Other model manufacturers do tend to evade in writing a detailed note of work carried out.
