i knew a man called steve bidwell who modelled japanese N gauge. i have lost contact with him over the years but i would love to get back in touch if anyone knows him....
There was a Japanese layout at the Chatham show last weekend and very nice it was to. I can't tell you much about it as I forgot to buy a show guide. (OK dbc50 I was to tight fisted!!)

Would be interested to see photos of layouts and any ideas!
Thanks

Hello Andew,
I do but it is HO.
There is much more available to N scalers in Japanese outline and accessories as can be seen fromt the pictures placed on this thread.
I am afraid that when I run them they have to run on my UK outline layout.
I have collected a varied span on rolling stock over the years from No1 of 1876[Katsumi] C62-1 to Yamanote to Tenshodo's Japan 500 Nozomi.
I have seen many interesting Japanese train videos on Youtube. You might find layouts there too.
I have also collected quit a bit of reference material also mainly in Japanese.
I need one of the pen text scanner translator thingys to read them.
Thank you for all the replies and apologies for not replying earlier. I have seen the Setagaya layout before and he also has done at least one other Japanese layout.
Was interested to see how popular it is here in the UK and what sort of ideas people had used.
Do you have websites or photos of your Japan layouts?
It is the rolling stock that interests me rather than specifically wanting a model railway and I am not very good at designing layouts or ideas!
Did not realise there was any Japanese Ho scale stuff though, especially not the 500 Nozomi - would like to see that!
I have been trying to learn a bit of Japanese to enable me to understand some of the (probably) excellent websites and books but it is rather difficult to learn!

Hello Andrew,
I will...eventually....take pictures of the Tenshodo Nozomi 500 and put them in photobucket.
In the meantime google Tenshodo and you can go to their store on the Ginza. They show the Nozomi 500.
It is in Japanese and you can get a funny Japanglish translation.
To see the web site you may need to get the thinghy that allows your computer to see Kanji and Katagana Japanese characters.
There is quite a bit of HO in Japan.Katsumi,Kawai,Kato,Tenshodo and others.
Try and get a Japanese model rail book to see and as I said before it would be nice to have one of those translater pens you can scan over the Japanese characters to get a rough idea. They are available, expensive and hard to find.
You are trying to learn Japanese eh!
Nihongo ganbarimasu kudasai,
Mata ne,
Bryan.
I dont have a japanse layout (yet) as i am in progress of moving from a pokey place to one that will have a sutiable loft/garage and then the creation shall begin, and even then it is likely to be more of a "freelance" circuit than "Purist" (as I also like Euro-N), but i do have a small collection of Japanese Locos and the odd deisel, plus wagons and Scenics from Kato, Tomy, Kawa, greenmax and Tomytec all lined up and ready to... just have to figure out my layout too!
