If memory serves there was a LBSC (L. Laurence) design published as a series in the Model Engineer Magazine. I have no idea who publishes the M.E. now but back then, (We are talking 50/60 years ago!), complete drawings were available for a modest sum.

This web page: http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/editorial/page.asp?p=227 should give you a lead to more information.

If you can find when the series was published you should be able to buy the relevent volumes on the second hand market that cover the "words and music" as LBSC was fond of calling his offerings and with any luck the plans are still available too.

The average "Man-in-a-shed" takes about 3,500 hours to build a live steam tender locomotive to a good standard. I wish you every success and hope that you will keep us up to date on progress.

Try A.J. Reevs. (or whatever they are called now!...)

Actually I have just had a look and they are only available in 7 1/4 and even then they have been discontinued. BUT I suspect they still have the masters and might be able to order them specially and are nice to them.

If you are concidering making one then you should know that its a very complex engine (much more so than most other steamers) sue to its 4 cylinder design. I am told its a complete pig to do.

There are plenty of model railway clubs and model engineering societies with a nausiating supply of Model Engineer magazines going back to the dawn of time! (probably when one of the readers made the first clock!! he he!!) Off the top of my head, the london MRC near kings cross has a good set as does Hereford society of model engineers.

Hi dhawker. Have you tried "LMS Locomotive Profiles No. 11 - The Coronation Pacifics" published by Wild Swan in 2008? It contains a full set of drawings for a Duchess at approx 2" gauge, including tenders, the Ivatt locos 46256/7, & the streamlined casings.
There is also a photographic supplement, published in 2009 with the same title, which contains further drawings and photos of every livery carried by the class.
I hope this is of help.

I came across an old Reeves catalog and there was no mention of Duchess in that ... have asked our Librarian to tell me where to find the ME Index and hope to find when and where in ME it was written up. Hope you are still checking this forum

Have a look at eBay item No. 310473365705 "MODEL ENGINEER - MY DUCHESS - DEC 13 1956 VOL 115 #2899" (there are others listed) this is the item that I had in mind when I posted before.

The downside is that it may be a description of the building of a working model, (back then almost certainly in 3.5" gauge), rather than a constructional series à la LBSC, Martin Reeves and others.

If it is a builder's description only then it is highly unlikely there will any Model Engineer published drawings and after 56 years getting drawings from the builder is rather doubtful too.
