Can anyone give me some info in this system due for release from Bachmann probably at the Warly Show DYNAMIS?

Bachmann have indicated that they will not be revealing any more info about Dynamis until the London Toy Fair. There is little (no?) technical info revealed to date although it will be compatible with EZ-Command.

There is rumour and speculation about the new features never before seen on any DCC console so any thoughts on what these might be?

I spoke to a Bachmann digital development engineer, who was on the Bachmann stand at the Swindon Steam Railway Modelling Festival (September).
Although we spoke in depth about the EZ-Command system. I could get no clue about the Dynamis, no matter how I tried. All he would say was "If you are about to buy a digital system for the first time, my advice is to wait and see what the Dynamis offers, you'll be surprised."
Now bear in mind that, in a former life, I was an Uk Sales Manager for an electronics company and new a few people that he had been dealing with during development. You can then see how "close to the chest" this is being plaid. I only hope it's not a big anti-climax when it's released.

I must admit I am holding back on ordering a new system until I hear what it has to offer. I only hope it's not another anticlimax like the Hornby DCC effort.
Marketing Hyperbole.

What's the point in saying we have the killer product unless you at least show some features.

Probably still in development - listening to people saying I wish it had this, I wish it had that.

If Bachmann would like to prove me wrong, you've got my number
If you show me some cool never seen before on DCC features, I'll climb back up on this soapbox and tell everyone to expect something great.

You know I think you're completely right there Doug. It would be unbelievable if Bachmann came out with some feature which the Ecos or new Veismann system did not have. I must just be gullible in even listening to hype like theirs.
And as for it being out in January..........

Just in case they are looking for ideas, here are some:

- Wireless controllers (not IR).
- WiFi network integration of command center to PC.
- Computer controlled sound with PC based Dolby 5.1 surround linked to layout giving doppler effects.
- PC suite with layout control, control panel, loco database, routing schedules etc.
- Long addressing linked to real name loco database.
- Realistic loco parameters allowing simple decoder programming, linked to database.
- Tasks and timed 'missions' built into the PC program that would enable some cool role-play on the layout. Shunting, routing, passenger trains etc.
- This above would need some feedback, so next point is integrated and/or simple feedback. Perhaps a DCC BUS and feedback system linked to signals and pointwork.
- Automation, allowing some interesting running of layout for displays and exhibitions.

anything else...?

i am just hopeing for a controller that feels like its built to last.

But the features above would be wonnderfull.

As Bachmann got the hump with our forums and became "unco-operative", I've lost intrest in their pathetic press statements. Produce the models I want and I may I'll buy them period. For me they lost a lot of public goodwill with their pedantic performance. We deserve a better relationship. The sooner Bachmann adopt a more realistic and friendly attitude to their customers the better.

To (hopefully) stop people buying their competitors product until their own is available ?

I agree.

Where would Bachmann be if we took the same atitude and refused to buy their products.

I very much doubt that the bachman dynamis system will be worth waiting for we heard all the hype about the hornby system I firmly believe that this was a future project that Bachman were in the early stages of developing and they are now trying to rush it out to compete with hornby.

I was advised when i was looking for a DCC sytem to wait for hornby. I ignored that advise and bought a lenz set 100 which does me nicely. If you are seriously into your DCC I would say that the top of the range NCE sytem or the new Ecos would be a better bet I very much doubt that the bachman system will be any more technologically advanced than them and we don't know what Lenz have in store it is some time since the set 100 came out and i wouldn't be at all surprised if they haven't got a next generation dcc system under development

There's the nail on the head buy a top range DCC system, not necessarily Lenz, and you should'nt be disapointed.
. Why is it these companies want to eat the whole cake, and often end up not doing anything well. I don't see Goodyear wanting to manufacture cars, or Ford Tyres. Why then should Hornby or Bachmann want to do DCC badly. The mind boggles.

I did hear the Bachmann system is already out in the States ?

>Why is it these companies want to eat the whole cake,
I was just browsing the Maerklin catalogue at lokshop. You can buy a soldering station and Dremel style drill from them.

David
I have wondered about the Bachmann attitude to forum criticism for some time.
As we are the customers and they are the suppliers, are we in a situation where the tail is trying to wag the dog?
If their business is profitable, it's because we buy the products they make. Let me make it clear for them:-
THEY HAVE NEVER DONE ME ANY FAVOURS, indeed by spending my money on their products, the opposite is possibly true.
Perhaps they think that all forum members only talk about it and never do any Railway Modelling, if so they need to be more professional with their market research.
At least Hornby have an adult attitude and Simon K is known to respond frequently to points made in forums. (yes Gary, I did say something nice about Hornby !! ) Cheers

Why then should Hornby or Bachmann want to do DCC badly. The mind boggles. It's because of the train set market. Selling train sets is big money. While Bachmann and Hornby have plenty of starter sets with analogue controllers, until recently neither of them had DCC ones. They both identified a gap in the UK market and filled it. Both these companies see that DCC is the way that model rail is going and want to cash in. Remember that when people start off in model rail, the company they start with is the one that they usually stick with and keep loyal to. Why do you think so many people on this forum have loyalty to Hornby? It's hardly because of their earth shattering product, it's because most of us started out on Hornby train sets (me included) and many people saw no reason to go elsewhere as they were content with what Hornby offered. Many people will still stick with one company which they will only buy product from. Hornby and Maerklin are two notable examples.

If Bachmann and Hornby did not provide DCC starter sets then people may start to look at German Trix Maerklin, Fleischmann and Roco starts sets. While their DCC attempts seem pathetic to the DCC enthusiast, a starter is hardly going to know that or care. He sees the familiar badge and he's happy.

I myself have thought f
k it I'm just going to buy an Ecos as the Bachmann Dynamis will inevitably be as big a disappointment as the Hornby effort. I guess it was wishful thinking that I could get a similar system for half the price.
It will probably be delayed for a year anyway. As someone said it will only have been announced now to stop people buying other systems. Theres no way it's going to have any of the features that Doug mentioned other than maybe radio control which is a big seller in the US market.

I really cant believe many of you have been so willing to write things off before you have even had the courtesy to wait and see what they are like.

Frankly i just find that rood.

Very well put Jeff
. We all know the Customer is not always right, but Bachmann's attitude does smack of arrogance

Probably because so many times before in life things do not always live up to expectations.

& maybe if the manufactures did not announce things so far in advance & we did not have the internet we would not be able to.

Make a good change from ZTC bashing though !

Bachmann are sending out this information to those who have registered an interest:-

QUOTE "Thank you for registering your interest in our exciting new DCC Control system EZ Command Dynamis. Over the coming weeks, more and more information will be made available.

One of the most commonly asked questions is "how many trains will Dynamis control?" Dynamis is capable of handling up 9999 locomotive decoder addresses. Of these, up to 40 addresses may be under control at any one time to allow the operator to quickly switch between different trains on the layout. These 40 addresses under control can be either be a single loco, or up to 5 individual locomotive addresses joined together in what is called a 'consist'. An example of a consist would be the two locos pulling a double headed train. Their actual addresses are joined so that both respond as one. The design of EZ Command Dynamis makes the assembly and disassembly of consists a matter of a few simple key presses. EZ Command Dynamis allows consists to contain up to 5 locomotives moving together as a single controlled unit."

Is there information here that suggests anything never before seen on a DCC console?

What is meant by 40 trains under control at any one time?

Happy modelling
