This is my new layout, I started the build in June 2022. I have made the layout modular like my last layout but this time it is easy to pull apart and I do not need to crawl round the back to access the fiddle yard. I am using the fiddle yard from my old layout which is 18" deep, the new section is 20" deep from the fiddle yard, apart from a extension I have added on the right front so I can have a small goods yard. The two ends are "L" shaped boards with two boards joining up which I have made from ply rather than the conventional 2x1, the track bed is 9mm ply. These two boards are intentionally curved inwards, the layout is a folded over figure eight with two levels like my old layout.
The idea of the layout is scenes from the book East Lancashire Lines, Bury to Heywood by J wells and pics by EF Bentley. I also have another book on Railways around Bury by J Wells which is also a source of information. So the layout is fictional but with scenes from around this area. I just completed wiring the scenic layout and have tested my Z21 for the first time. I have put the wires in ready for when I get round to laying track for the goods yard.

Thanks Norm, I have finished making the simpler inner frames and have painted them with Halfords grey primer. I have now realised it will be easier to paint them before fitting them to the span units. Not sure what colour I will use yet, but I will paint them all with my airbrush. I can then make them up and fit them under the track bed, I can then start work on the stonework at the ends and the brick pillars.

Well I have made the units up with the painted frames, like I post previously I have fitted three inner frames, not four as on the real bridge. To be honest it would have looked a little cramped with four anyway. I painted inside the pillars so no wood will be showing. I have now fitted two frame units and also fitted the rears has well, waiting for the glue to dry on the second rear. I have also made a start on the left end stone work, I have made a piece with stone that goes between the girder frames.

More progress with the viaduct, I have now got three spans fitted. I have added styrene strip H girder to the top of the frames, the plan is to fit the railings on the top of it. It needed painting so I masked the track and the girder frames and painted the top girder with Badger Stynylrez Primer, it comes ready thinned but my airbrush nozzles are too small so I thinned it slightly with distilled water. Once dry I removed the masking off the frames and painted the girder with the Tamiya Dark Iron acrylic, pretty happy with the result.

I have done more work on the viaduct, brick center pillars, and made a start on the left end stone wall. I bought some railings last year but unfortunately did not buy long enough lengths for this viaduct. Two suppliers are both out of stock so I only have enough to do one side but at least I can now build the end walls.

I have not posted for a while, here is a update on the layout. I have done more work on the viaduct, walls made out of stone styrene sheet, actually oo gauge, the n-gauge stuff looked too small compared to the real viaduct. I have made a start on the brick pillars in the center too, and laid some water based varnish down for the river. I bought some railings a while ago and they are ideal for this viaduct, I have fitted some to the front. Unfortunately they were out of stock with suppliers, but I have had a message today they are back in so I should get them soon then I can complete the rear side of the viaduct. I have also fitted another two Dapol signals, one is a distant signal so I have made a start on wiring for them plus a new control box for them too. On the right side of the layout at the front I am going to fit a signal box, made from a Ratio 236 kit but modified to look like the old Bury North signal box. I have only started on that today, I have changed the roof and swapped which end the ladders go to the right side. For safety I have the lower door on the end not the front like the real box, it should look the part.
