I'd never thought of that. It's an idea I will have to experiment with. (As soon as I get paid and can afford the luxury of food again!!)
Another tip not so much for trees but for logs etc. is the garden Mallow (huge pink flowering thing which is rampant in my back garden) When pruned, allowed to dry and cut to the appropriate length it makes excellent logs.
