QUOTE (Nicholas1 @ 20 Jul 2007, 04:46) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>On mine I just enter the 4 digit address code ans as long as the decoder supports 4 digits the ECoS accepts it . It is that simple, unless I am missing something.
You seem to be one of the lucky ones. I started a thread on the ECoS support forum about this as mine is having problems in this area. I can set a four digit address but only using the programming screen and the loco will not respond to this address when I use the controller. I will be taking a loco round to a friends system at the weekend to see if it responds to the four digit address I have programmed. From the feedback on the ESU forum it seems that there is some issue with my ECoS. I just have to identify exactly what it is. I can only set two digit addresses from the programming screen too.

One guy on the ECoS forum says he can program address (both short and long) by using the edit loco screen, this doesn't work on mine. I have to use the programming screen for addresses. If you can use the edit loco screen then you don't have to enter cv 17 and 18 separately but if you use the programming screen then you do.

After having written the above this morning, I have come home from work and tried to set 4 digit addresses and 2 digit addresses from the edit loco screen and it worked first time no problem. So no you don't need to set cv 17/18 separately unless you specifically want to.

I tried this with another loco and it worked perfect too. I guess my ECoS must have been having a bad hair day the other day. I really can't explain this at all! It works perfectly now and yes I did have cv 29.5 set correctly first time.

By the way the manual is not very specific on a few things. There is a help forum which is mainly in German but a English one is supposedly on the way. I just butt in in English though, they don't seem to mind.
