In the Warhammer 40,000 universe there is an extensive Mag-Lev transport system. I'm currently reading a book called Mechanicum which is set around 30K and the characters use the Mag-Lev.

You could hunt around for a product that Hornby brought out in the very early 80s. I barely remember it but I did see it in a shop window in Banbury but I think I would have been 6 or 7 at most. It does pop up on ebay from time to time.

QUOTE (Lancashire Fusilier @ 16 Jan 2009, 00:59) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Funny this is mentioned. I have some Warhammer 40k figures that I discovered when relocating and thought that maybe one of my sons might be into them later so didn't throw them out!

I've kept all my old 40K stuff. The Mag-lev is on Mars and Mars being a forge world its going to have the best tech of 40K.

Those that don't know the "fluff" of 40K theres quite a steam-punk feel the technology and much of what we know today and future has been lost to war.

If I were to make a 40K diorama, I would use something steam and european. A loco with lots of valves/cogs/oddments on the outside.

With some mods, that would be what a Chaos train would look like.

And google is my friend today
