I have a flying scotman with a coal tender and i was browsing the other day on ebay and saw a water tender for a scotman why is this so expensive is it rare to get a water tender?
I am not sure weather the live steam scotsman has actually been produced yet.
there have beed 2 RTR models as far as i know. hornby and triang have both done one using different mouldings.
The last one done by Hornby had the water tender in BR blue and grey! (god knows why)
I dont know weather the moulding for the live steam water tender is from the same tool as the previous model. i know the live steamers use a thermoset plastic and i am not sure if it can be used in the older tools. i believe Hornby had to make a new tool especially for the live steamers. (from the same CAD drawings as their existing model?)
QUOTE (60134 @ 30 Mar 2008, 11:20) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Bear in mind the livery carried by Scotsman when running in this configuration - LNER on one tender, 4472 on the other and a crest on the cabside!
But... for a while the second tender was painted in blue/grey coaching livery, which I believe was done to disguise it and match with the train itself. I believe that at this time the letters LNER reverted to the tender.
I remember that this tender was stored for years (?) at Carnforth and was later purchased by another group (NELPG?)
As a final point on the subject were you aware that with the second tender attached the whole ensemble had to have a 20T brake van attached when reversing on running lines - nice excuse to run Scotsman on a minimum space layout?
Scotsman's water tender was the serious conversion on my modelling career. I drilled out the coal, stuck a piece of card over the top and down the front. I was 12 at the time and naturally, it was a complete mess...
The A1 Trust acquired the water cart for "Tornado", the tank was a write-off and scrapped and the frames proved unsuitable for conversion to roller-bearings so the remains were flogged back to the new owners of Scotsman at that time.

Ever thought of trying that on a Fleischmann observation coach?

How long ago was that? I was under the impression that the water tender was not purchased by the NRM and was sold to the owners of Bittern instead. I know they have a water tender and it's ready to use on the mainline should the need arise, is this the same one or have the found another old tender to convert?
Pictures of it from the Mid Hants below
Sorry if I mislead you - the tender was chassis was sold before the NRM got hold of Scotsman - I thought Flying Scotsman Services had it back but it might have been Jeremy Hosking.
