Hi Everyone,
Given it’s a very special year in terms of one of the most iconic locomotives of all time, and without trying to show any bias (not yet at least), thought it might be a good opportunity to give an open invite thread, to all parties, to add there story / memories or modelling input, on a complete blank canvas approach, so here goes -
Standing on Welwyn North footbridge with a group of teenage friends for one of the later sixties runs and getting well smoked. Sigh. (One of the aspects of steam I really enjoyed was the smell of the combusted steam coal and cylinder oil, and with the 'sealed' electric trains on the ECML one no longer gets the residual smell from the soot deposits on the tunnel walls in the KX inner sub area.)
Hi 34C / Alan,
34C - That’s a very evocative memory for sure - bet you can still almost smell it all over again !
Alan - Great video clip too. The power that’s at those finger tips too !
Stamps are a nice collection too, can recognise a few settings / locations, but not that many - feels like a quiz challenge 😉 ?
The £2 coin is very nice too, not come across / seen any in circulation so far - has anyone else ?
There are obviously a lot of Flying Scotsman models either released or being released this year, have noted than Jim / PappaB, is getting one, has anyone else so far; and if so any first impressions / thoughts - as am very tempted for sure ...... to sit along side this one;
Cheers for now, please keep your input coming everyone, Thanks, Cheers Norm
It has the occasional run out on my layout, but is of course OO scale, where my layout and all other locos and rolling stock are HO
I am eagerly awaiting this model, which I have on reserve order, but stocks have sold out, so not sure when (or if) I will get
Hi Alan,
Thanks for the reply, that’s a very nice Flying Scotsman Model, even “if OO guage” as you say.
Am quite tempted / taken by this version, which is also a limited number / availability and Pre - Order as well -
Hi David,
That’s a very unusual photo - not a lot of the Flying Scotsman there if truth be know eh ! Lucky the nameplate was in place 🧐.
Did you see any more of the Loco while you were there ?
Thanks for posting, Cheers Norm
Hi All,
Further to David’s post / photo from his visit to the NRM when major works were being undertaken on the Flying Scotsman, back in 2006.
Came across this link on the NRM website, which contains details of this years planned activities, together with various other related information on the Loco -
