The new Hornby super detailed Class A3 "Flying Scotsman" to be released shortly has smoke deflectors fitted.

Whilst being true to the prototype "Flying Scotsman" as presented in 2004 the deflectors are being removed towards the end of 2005.

Should Hornby remain true to the 2004 prototype or offer the model without smoke deflectors?

Hi there!

I think the deflectors were only taken off for one or two weeks and it was found that they were still neede even at the lower speeds that the loco is normally running at these days. I think that there was some surprise as to how effective they were at lifting the exhaust clear. So my vote is to keep them on the model too. Even better to paint the loco and model in BR Brunswick Green so that it can correctly have a double chimney and deflectors!
