Heres an o gauge shunter I bought as an un-finished project for £15, stripping some of the bodywork to fit checkerplate and fittings, any ideas?

...and this is my first attempt at a building...

...it may end up as a shop, any ideas on what could be sold there?

Was thinking of something a bit different, maybe an adult type shop,or a dodgy kebab shop, what about "Ann Summers"? or am I being too crude? Suppose it depends on the surroundings. Even a quiet little hamlet has its seedy underworld.

Our town has an "Anne Summers" on the high street and they don't blank the windows. In some ways the window is just a 21st century version of the corsetary / female under garment shops that were to be found on every parade of shops up to the late '60s. Although I don't think there's a 21st century equivalent of the knitted twin set??

As an aside, the other shops in the parade - were wool shop, newsagent / tobacconist, some kind of toy shop, butchers, chemist, small independent grocers, post office......

They normally have pearls as an accessory.

AFAIK "twin set" is a description of ladies attire comprising of a skirt & matching jacket - the sort of thing worn by Mrs Bucket in the sitcom.

Re parade shop fronts from days of yore

Of course you'd have to have yellow / amber cellophane in the window in summer too. It was the colour of the stuff on Lucozade bottles....

I don't know about the kebabs but a village chippy would be fairly easy.

How would I emulate the smell of stale chip fryers like we get here in the height of summer

Im lucky to a certain extent as Stein uses lard for fryers but he is far enough away from the harbour so I dont get the smell,(dont know if I should make this public on here but Im a vegetarian)
